Makes me wonder if what Clark saw a few show ago really happened, Lex and Lana kissing, sure he was being effected by Brainac/Spike but...

That's a Luthor for you. Strange thing is, I can seehim coming to that warped conclusion. Life is pain, indeed, because you get hurt, you get better, things die, you move on, but to the Luthors, all their physical needs can be met by throwing money at the problem. But the kind of healing Lex needs, emotional, he places no value on. For him, good works is as much a means to an end (praise and adoration) as money is. Without the praise and adoration, without the physical gain, he feels naked and defenseless.

No, it proves that he and Clark think about the same thing. :) Both of them know that the other has strong feelings about Lana - and both know they can't be honest with her 100%, but Clark currently has the upper hand, unlike two seasons ago.

How so? To someone of Lex's twisted mindset the vision showed that the only way to live "happily ever after" is to have the money and power to do so. I really liked the twist.

So, they would have use belive. I just don't think it flowed well.

I think it's perfectly logical: "If I don't win the Senator race against Jonathan Kent, Lana Lang will die. I love Lana, so the only way to save her is to win the race. While I'm fond of Clark Kent, I care about Lana more because Lana hasn't actively tried to hurt me and proved herself to be consistently less than honest with me." One of the fundamental issues of Lex's life is control, that's a primary reason why the character can't stand Superman later on: not only is Superman outside the normal means of influence possible by Lex, he's physically impossible to minimize through violence and other means of coercion. I liked the bewildered look on Lex's face through much of the episode, like he was constantly being pleasantly surprised but more than a little scared. That was played very well, as the lack of control was probably on a "wet your pants" level for anyone who had the need for control but not the self-discipline of being Lionel's son. Mike Rosenbaum really is the best actor on the whole cast, which is pretty amazing when I consider that John Glover is a part of the cast too.

I think it is because when Lex gets that feeling he needs sexual healing. It's something that's good for him...

(*sigh* now I've got that stupid song stuck in my head. DOH!)

He could lose the race and then choose to just not have a second child, or make the leaving of dear old dad not so dramatic. There are other options given what he saw in his dream.

Of course there are other options but to a power hungry control freak of Lex's caliber- "more money and power" is the easiest most comfortable one.
