You solve that by not allowing Nazis on your platform, not by throwing the baby out with the bathwater
I agree, though it's hard when one of the biggest is run by a self-proclaimed "free speech absolutist".

But even then, I'd like to think we'd actually managed to accept that the Nazis were bad, and so their arguments wouldn't gain any traction. Apparently not.

It actually worked great! On the largest social network in the world!

Then somebody bought that network and things took a turn

Aware. Didnt work that well before he bought it though.

Words like own goals, self inflicted wounds and unmitigated disaster come to mind.

Main problem is social media noise is just that. Doesn't translate to real popular support .

Musk buying it was Stalingrad but war was already lost by then.

I solved the social media problem for my kids. They do not have any devices that can access social media. They can get a smart phone when they can afford to pay for one. The family has an ipad, but it requires me to login to download apps.

The family computer also requires me to verify any content and the browsers are locked down as well.

We do not need big brother but we do need responsible parents.
That was our answer too, however the public school then handed them an iPad for use in classes and we got to see just how much time they spend playing video games and doing whack a mole for what tunnel can be found through the school security. The truth is our schools are barely funded enough to educate and not funded enough for IT.
We are pushing to remove the iPads but that's facing weird resistance from a small subset of English/Math teachers. Exceptions were always planned for tech related electives so they weren't the problem.

I'm probably completely wrong here (and perhaps it depends on in what country you live), so please correct me, but: I was under the impression that an iPad (or the Android based equivalent) was genuinely required for the digital way the educational material is taught these days ? If I got that right, it's not really 'weird resistance' as far as I understand things, but rather simply the way an 'education/school' works currently.

voting age should be raised to 25, not lowered to 16.
I'm scared to remember how stupid I was at 16, even at 22-23.
I'm not sure that using stupidity as the basis for excluding someone from voting is a good approach. It might sound tempting in theory, but in practice it means that someone will get to decide who is and isn't stupid, and that would be a recipe for disaster.
