Steriods in sports

I got this from a friend (thus it may be exaggerrated a bit but...) but the follow up investigation with Chris Beniot death / murders has lead to the "suspention of many top wrestlers and further investigations into other sports.

Part of this is the creation of a new steriod that doesn't show as positive on tests. Several places sell this new steriod (one nearby in Albany NY).

Not sure if its true and why I care but I remember the discusions we had here with Chris' drug use and thought I would toss this rumor / info out there for others to see and contiplate (better than wondering about 4e)

curious..... based off of what I read from your link that is where he got his info. He had suggested the "top ten" are involved which I doubt that many. But the likes of HBK, Triple H and Papa Pump (non WWE/F) I could see them being involved.

Curious.....

I wonder if this will go into other sports also. There is a lot of interest in Baseball with steriod use afterall.

Sports figures are taking such a beating lately.....steriods, affairs, betting, dog fights....

I'd be surprised if the drug scandal doesn't grow continually throughout the sporting world. Baseball isn't the only sport where steroids can give you a competitive advantage, and I doubt football or basketball or whatever players are any more able to resist the temptation than baseball players.

I've already begun to assume that the performance drugs are several years ahead of the tests now, and that there are many athletes out there who routinely get away with taking them.

And it's my opinion that the marginal pros are at least as likely to be doping as the dominant allstars. Think about it this way: who's under more pressure to boost his performance beyond his natural ability, the league MVP or the guy struggling to make the cut onto a roster? The next $10 million probably isn't as important to a perennial allstar as the first $100,000 is to the last guy that makes a major league team. What about the guy who's ranked 100th in the world in an individual sport? Would that extra edge give him enough strength or stamina to crack the top 50, or even the top 20?

The allstar has a huge career to risk for the sake of an already outrageously huge salary. The marginal player has far less to risk for the chance at a relatively much larger payoff. The rational allstar will see that his natural ability is enough for him to succeed at the highest level, and therefore that doping would be an unnecessary risk. The benchwarmer, on the other hand, might decide that the drugs could offer him a critical boost to his not-quite-adequate natural talent.

On the other hand, if they all know they can get away with it, there will be no perceived risk to doping. I'm afraid we're quickly approaching this point.

I honestly think it's almost a witch hunt. Athletes today spend hours a day working out, have personal trainers, follow strict diets, etc. And yet somehow, it's all some sort of magical drug or steroid that gets the credit.

Oh yeah, because murder-suicides only happen due to steroids...or D&D...or video games...or rock & roll...etc

For whatever reason, people murder other people. Maybe they are crazy, maybe they are just really angry. But I see no great increase in murder rates among athletes vs the average population. If anything, probably the opposite, especially considering about 90% of murderers are males from 18-49, which is what most athletes are and you can probably count the number of athlete murderers on your fingers.

And even if there were, you would have to isolate steroids as the factor, as opposed to perhaps athletes simply being somewhat more violent than average.

And given the nature of the incident, it clearly wasn't the so called "roid rage", since it seemed pretty calculated. (And I honestly think "roid rage" is caused by the constant badgering of people saying "Are you taking steroids?" and then assuming they are lying if it's a denial).

Indeed, according to this:

He sedated his son before killing him, and his own blood tests only showed an elevated level of testosterone, no steroids.

That's not the way the world works though. Just because we have one doesn't mean we also can't have the other.
