I thought he did that a long time ago? Did some light research and it seems he originally stepped down (for the same reason) in 2014 with Phil Reed taking over as CEO. Reed resigned in 2023 and was replaced by Meredith Placko who resigned in 2025 to focus on her own company TurboDork. So I guess Evil Stevie stepped back up for a while until they could find a new replacement.

Yep, looks like he just stepped in to steer the ship while looking for a new CEO. CEO clearly isn't what he wants to do, which is why for over a decade he hasn't done that except for covering in between CEOs).

Congrats to the new CEO, Sabrina Gonzalez!

I think this makes sense. Car Wars was happening when I was in High School, and I believe Steve Jackson is in his 70s now. Running a gaming company, like galavanting around the cosmos, is a game for the young.

It will be interesting to see where the company goes now.

Hopefully Sj will take some time to focus on a GURPS 5e. The game needs a modernized, stream-lined edition and SJG should make plenty of $$$ with a new version of the industry's most versatile system. The recent pointless toolkit supplement hints at an opportunity to shift the system.

Sales of the Revised 4e book will (apparently) be taken as an indicator of the overall health of the ecosystem.

The problem with rebooting a system as expansive as GURPS is that there will be many books that need to be re-written and resources are limited. Backwards compatibility potentially helps, but limits what can be achieved by the new edition.

An easier on-ramp is pretty much the only thing GURPS needs IMO. ‘Pointless characters’ helps make things much easier for players but the GM is still needing to do a lot of campaign prep. Some new genre treatments using this approach would help minimise that campaign prep.
