Stonetop, or, Nice Village You've Got There

Stone Week being first big series Derik has done since Dagger Week makes me happy. Now, back to converting ST into a DH frame...(it's okay, I'm already running a Stonetop game)

I actually did a whole bunch of work at one point turning The World's End into a 5e setting for adventurers, lol. It's a really rich Points of Light place even if you don't center it on the titular village.

Stonetop is a game I'm eventually going to grab in an electronic format. I remember looking at a playtest version of is a long time ago and thinking this is going to be something really cool with the right players.

If you're interested in it and have just under five hours to spend, Knights of Last Call did a first take on it. That was sort of mentioned earlier in the thread, but I didn't see a link to the video. I recommend watching if you want a very thorough discussion, especially if you're new to PbtA. Derik has some strong opinions, so you may not agree with everything he has to say, but he gives some of the most thorough discussions you'll find, especially in conjunction with liking other similar systems. Apologies if there was a link, but I didn't see it for whatever reason.

1) They don't want to be involved in the world-building process.
2) They don't want to do "boring" stuff (i.e. "non-adventuring stuff.")
3) The Powered by the Apocalypse engine is too GM-fiat based, and the rules too wishy-washy for them.
4) Numbers don't go brrr.
5) Not fantastic enough.
I think these are more common than we might like to think. I have some very strong players who don't want to be involved with world building. I was surprised when I first encountered this with a really good player. I think there's a "play stance" where this just isn't appropriate.

And PbtA games are really not "numbers go brrrr" games, so if that's what you want, you'll be unhappy.

I think some people play RPGs for the game part: the combat, the skill challenges and so on. I don't think they'll be happy with this game. But I sure am! I'd love to play it.

It is a wise GM who understands their players.
