Um, no, it isn't.

Dr. Boyce appears in "The Cage" - those events happened before SNW begins. His canon appearance is done. He doesn't appear again in the original series, so he isn't required for where the show has to go now.

Like, folks, look - the rest of the sick bay IS bolted down - all those bio-beds are anchored. They had one table mobile for flexibility's sake - because unlike a modern naval ship, or Morrus' dining room, really weird stuff happen in that sickbay, and sometimes, just sometimes, you need a table where it needs to be, not where you bolted it down.

Sometimes the things you argue with are just odd. Sure, OK, ships don’t bolt down their furniture. The whole concept is ridiculous. If you say so.

I was comparing Chapel’s eyeballs not freezing because of the lack of a helmet to the entire TOS crew getting infected with a virus because their hazmat suits aren’t properly sealed (despite dialog implying that they are) so one guy can casually infect himself by reaching into his helmet to scratch an itch on his nose.

My Dad was sick in hospital for several weeks but he is back home and we have gotten back to watching Star Trek. And while he was not particularly a fan of The Griffin Incident episode (I had to stop and restart it another day twice!) I thought that it was located firmly enough in the arc of what Trek has been. The PVR cut off the last tad of episode though, after Pike mentioned he still had the scar from the nail...

This was a great episode. Super tight pacing, with great character moments for all the principals. And, we got to see a bit more of the crew. The science was mumbo jumbo but as it was typical Trek mumbo jumbo it didn’t distract me much (aside from a few eye rolls at the common sci-fi trope of vacuum being the ultimate blast cooler). One of the best episodes of the series.

and now we get a Soap Opera episode complete with all its dramatic pauses, overlit sets, awkward close-ups, and ridiculous plot developments. The gimmick is that Pike knows that its an anomaly whereas everyone else is caught up in the illusion.

I suppose they do succeeded in being as terrible as the old day time soaps were, but the gimmick is irritating and worse still it distracts from the emotionally poignant Pike story hidden inside it and not revealed until the last 10 minutes.

We also get Spocks sexy evil twin, an Abbot-Chancellor easter egg and a cameo from Deidre Hall who still looks good at 80.

Its not the worse episode of the season (that goes to the Episode 3) but does anybody even watch Soap Operas anymore?
