Spoilers Strange New Worlds s4

I'm responding to the percent of gimmicks complaint, whether this episode was a gimmick or not is likely in the eye of the beholder.
Looking at the first season of TOS on IMDB, to remind me, I see the following:

5 Superior beings
2 Spacemen gone wild
1 Transporter accident
1 Sexy robot episode
1 Alternate Earth
1 Shakespeare play
1 A submarine combat
1 Alternate dimension
1 Time travel

That's 14 out of 28. It's 29 if you count the pilot with Pike, but not everyone does.

So, more episodes that you say aren't, than we get in an entire season now? I'm not sure superior beings is a gimmick, but again, people have different tolerance for what is normal.

Superior extraDimensional beings aren't gimmicky, Squire of Gothos is fun, but Soap Opera delusion is gimmicky and 100% of episodes this season have been gimmicky

I did like how the other Q(?) was getting into the soap opera. If they are Q, I wonder if this is why the Q set Q on the enterprise in TNG.

That episode from last season that first introduced Trelane implied that he is Q's son (since we heard John de Lancie's voice at the end).

I know! They can't just put him in there as the voice and not have us suspect Trelane's true origins. Though I can see someone involved with casting saying something like "Shall we get John de Lancie to do the voice of his dad? It'll make fans go crazy!"

Currently at the puppet episode. I liked it enough. I kind of wish it had not just been a dream. I can imagine a final moment of humour where everyone is flesh and blood again and then you see the guy with the hole in him walk by and he is still a puppet. "We were not sufficiently confident in the medical science nor the arts and crafts to risk reversing his current predicament."

I did not know that they reordered episodes. I did not think that was a thing people did anymore. Seems... questionable.

Super tangential, something I may start a new thread on later, but in Star Trek do they ever talk about actual comic book heroes or old television series that would have existed prior to the timeline divergence? Does anyone ever name drop Superman, Spider-Man, Batman, The Fantastic Four, Wonder Woman, or the X-Men? Or even in The Orville? How does the way they talk about the last two hundred years compare to how we talk about the last two hundred years?

They don’t talk about superheroes but they are very obsessed with late 20th century music, vehicles, and fashion. Nothing from the 21st century or later though for some reason. Just the late 20th century. It was clearly a very influential 30 years or so and dominated culture for the next 300 years.
