Part of why it feels like there and maybe a dozen people on Pike's Enterprise.
We've been rewatching TOS and the Enterprise does feel different. It feels like a big, crowded, navy ship. In addition to the many extras wandering corridors and in various rooms, and all the reshirts of course, there's also lots of throwaway references to crew. Maybe I'm just looking out for this, because the empty SNW Enterprise is a pet peeve of mine, but it really does feel different.

Plus the atmosphere is different. More formal, more military, ranks and surnames used more often. In fact, I think some of the main cast in TOS you never actually hear their first names (Sulu, Uhura?) in the actual show; or of so, very rarely. But I put that down to command style. Every captain will run their ship in a different way, and Kirk's Enterprise is more formal and military than Pike's.

Yeah, I don't recall Sulu's first name ever being mentioned. Uhura was once, I believe. McCoy and Spock, never. Spock made a point of saying, when asked, "You couldn't pronounce it."

Oh! I didnt even know Spock had a first name! (I always though Vulcans were a culture with single names)
Dont know what Sulu's first name is, and I only recall Nyota was first used in one of the movies

You're right. I looked it up and Uhura's first name was only said in a movie and was just coming back here to correct myself. Same with Kirk's middle name, Tiberius, but I remembered that one. Mr. Scott's first name is unknown to this day, as far as I know 😂
