You sure that was about Spock's first name? It makes more sense for it to be the surname, since he and his father Sarek have different names, and it would be odd for them to have different surnames.

Odd to who? Even just on Earth, different cultures have different naming conventions. Somebody from Iceland doesn’t have the same last name as their parents. Lots of cultures do it differently. Parts of Africa, India. In Tibet families don’t share names.

That said, in this case you are correct. Spock his his first name. His last name is not easily pronounceable by humans so most Vulcans go by their first name only when dealing with other species.

It's my assumption, given that naval reference would generally be Mister, followed by surname, but the question asked is actually is he has "another name."

The non-canon source of Barbara Hambly's Trek novel, Ishmael, gives his name as "S'chn T'gai Spock". That name appeared on some posters, but they were retracted, and it is still non-canon.

I think canon on Vulcan naming practices is scant. To humans, the form is usually "Name, child of FatherName, child of GrandfatherName". Some sources suggest that the family names are what are typically unpronounceable, so to humans they just state some of the lineage for context, but who knows?

Watched the 3 episodes that were available on the plane - so Valles Marineris, Human Best Friend, and A Case of Chiaroscuro. Enjoyed them all. Some thoughts:

• Good time loop, nice Doctor Who reference. Gosh, is that Saffron Burrows?
• Why does anyone think that a planet that makes you uncontrollably drunk is a good idea?
• Rebecca Romjin really likes singing, huh.
• I’m not sure why the alien diplomats thought an exploding shuttle was a culturally complimentary fireworks display and not, you know, a terrorist incident.
• I also think not telling Spock that you’re not a hallucination for a couple of days is a bit rude, Kirk.
• Just snog Jim, Spock. Your pathetic beards are pathetic.
• Nice noir episode. Is that meant to be Kor as in John Colicos? Demore Barnes is doing a very good young James Earl Jones impression.
