Suggested House Rule

This house rule does step on the toes of our monkish people, but it seems to add to the cinematic flavor of a d&d game, if a The Matrix style flavor is what is enjoyed.

* All characters and NPCs have the Improved Unarmed Strike.
* Monks gain the Weapon Focus (Unarmed Strike) feat at 1st to compensate;

*Monks may use Dexterity instead of Strength when determing succcess on trip checks.

The main thing here is that I want everyone to be able to attack unarmed, but I want monks to feel compensated.

Just OOC - Why do you want everyone in the world from lowliest of commoners to frailest of old men to do lethal physical damage from punching someone? (NO I am not knocking it, just want to know why.)

The Monk using Dex vs. Str for trips makes perfect sense.

IF you are going to allow everyone to be trained to kill with a mere punch, then I guess it would balance to give the Monk the Weapon Focus (maybe even specialization too) in Unarmed combat since by design THEY are the ones most trained in the art of killing with a bare hand.

Just my humble $0.02 worth.

I like it. I think the monk compensation package is good, and wouldn't change a thing there. I might adjust it so that commoners wouldn't have the ability, while anyone with some battle experience or adventuring would, making it another way to separate the heroes from the masses.

Lethal?....

When did they change that?

As far as I know IUS doesn't allow for a character to deal lethal damage normally with unarmed strikes, it just takes away the AoO for unarmed attacks.

Yep, that's right. One more reason why IUS really stinks.

GEH - My bad.
For some reason in my addled brain, I was remembering the "are considered armed" statement. I forgot that it only removes the AoO and that it doesnt make it "real" damage. I was mixing it up with other feats.

On a side note: There are too damn many feats to remember them all! ::rant done::
