Suggestions on Controllers?

First Post
So having played a Shaman up to almost lv7 whom I love deeply and a battlemind which although I enjoy, I just ain't feeling the defender love. So i've decided to make a controller, I plan to focus on status conditions/isolating a target and such. I've seen an invoker played a few times and was quite impressed, however instead of combing through the builder, I was hoping I could get suggestions.
Comments on each class along with builds and suggestions would be greatly appreciated =]

Invokers are, perhaps, the easiest controller to build poorly. I'd seriously recommend going to the official CharOp forums and checking out the Invoker handbook. There are so many variants, you're going to want to know what your options are.

Well Controllers are as follows:

1) Wizard - I'd suggest either Tome of Readiness, Staff of Defense, or Orb of Deception. There are solid illusionists builds, specifically gnomes make amazing illusionists and they are very great at control. The dailies of wizards are game-breakingly amazing.

2) Druid - I'd avoid swarm druids (too low of defense scores). They seem...ok as controllers, although I've only seen 1 in action so YMMV

3) Invokers - I'd look at Preserving invoker, they seem to have more status affecting powers

4) Psion - I haven't seen them much either, but I hear the telepath build is far superior to the other one. They seem very useful as well.

5) Seeker - I've only heard about these also and they are looked at as pretty weak, but if you can find ways to boost your RBA then they're not so bad. They have a lot of push effects.

What are you looking for in a controller?

I'm hoping to make a controller that is tactful much like my healer, otherwords telling people what to do :p I've seen wizards and invokers, the invoke was wrathful and.., well both were the more damage controllers. I'm hoping to make a controller that is capable of putting serious status effects on a single target to hopefully take it out of the encounter until the party is ready.

There's a level 1 wizard encounter power that dazes, pretty decent at taking out a monster for a round, or at least impeding them. Wizard's can be good at status effects, but some people focus on damage. A wizard with enlarge spell and winged horde does well, preventing the enemy from taking OA's and allowing your party to run around the field without problem. Illusionists can drop a -2 penalty on attack rolls.

What level you playing to? Wizards keep getting better as they get higher in level.

I'm starting him of at lv 1 in LFR but hoping to get him up to at least paragon if not epic tier.
Any other suggestions on a character that would fit this play style? Heavy status conditions at around lv6- paragon tier, little damage/tactical.

Probably the best recommendation I can offer you is improved initiative.

I have found Gming a powerful controller, that initiative matters for a controller more than any other class in the game.

When the controller goes first in a combat...it is a night and day difference than if he goes last. So take this feat and never look back.
