Super Special Secret Gaming Event

the Jester

Legend
I'm bursting with excitement- today, at last, my plans culminate. My group will be meeting at my house between 4 and 5 pm and travelling to the Secret Undisclosed Location in order to have a Super Special Gaming Event. :) I can't reveal too many details yet, but things have been in the works for months and they're finally culminating!

Last game left off with our heroes, in support of Lucifer, planning a strike against Asmodeus (!)... they're in Hell, on the first layer, at a massive city in which there are great games being held... and they've been warned repeatedly about this terrible group of mortals who serve Asmodeus.

The game ended with the two groups rounding the corner and coming face to face.

This is gonna be a good one.

I'm so excited that I had to share. I'm bursting to tell all, but... must wait five more hours... :p :heh:

I'll give y'all details after the game tonight- can't wait!!!!!! *rubs hands together like a silent movie villain who's just tied your girl to the train tracks*

I've got a theory about part of the secret event. I'll see if I'm right soon enough. I'm definitely looking forward to today's game as well.

It went smashingly.

The set up had been coming since around September. I had been planning with another dm, and the paths of our epic games passed in classic 'Marvel vs. DC' fashion- first the two epic parties battled, then they joined forces to storm the very fortress of Asmodeus himself, at the bottom of the Pit of Hell!!

The two groups were set up against one another. The encounter was in the shadow of a huge coliseum, so loud that they couldn't even hear themselves think. it made it hard to clear up the confusion.

Fourteen epic characters, plus two cohorts and an npc...

When they finally faced off with Asmodeus, it was them against him, Martinet, Glasya, a great wyrm red dragon and sixteen pit fiends in full plate +5 and amulets of greater magic fang +5.

They killed him, on his own plane. Sure, they were somewhat manipulated into it by the Big A's predecessor, Asmodeus; but hell, that doesn't change the fact that they did it.

Damn! Me and my co-dm and our two groups- what a handful it was! And it was fantastic! We were so wired afterwards that about six players and I had to have a short session of our low-level party just to wind down....

We played from about 5 pm to 2 am with the crossover game, then from about 3 to 4 with my halfling group. What a day! Fabulous crossover... ahhh, it was grand.

So where was the secret undisclosed location that you took all the players to?

It was the other dm's house. ;)

Giving that away in advance would have meant the jig was up, as most of them know who he is and that we compare RBDM notes a lot.

Ah, OK. I was thinking you had some interesting spooky place with an odd ambiance set up.

Well, we weren't actually in his house- we were in a big room in his apartment complex that you can reserve for parties and stuff. So though not spooky it was well-appointed for gaming.

Sounds awesome this is hard to do as I have tried =FLOP. Glad you pulled it off and there was much fun to be had.

First of all, my theory was pretty much correct. Once I heard that there was a secret location involved, I recalled a thread that The Jester posted a few months back about collaborations between different DMs and crossovers.

I really liked the special event. My character didn't actually fight any of the other side's characters in the first battle, busy with some devils that teleported in near him. There was some carnage when some of the two groups collided though. I enjoyed meeting the other group and probably most of all I enjoyed hearing about how both sides were tricked and manipulated by the secret schemes of the two DMs. Hearing "the spin" on how our group was the enemy from the other side's perspective was cool.

The combat rounds took a long time as you might imagine. I had an entire page filled with various magic and psionic effects on my character and their various caster levels. When I got hit by a targetted greater dispel, there followed several minutes of rolling just for that one spell!

Some highlights:
time stop+reverse gravity+prismatic sphere shenanigans (one guy got turned to stone and plane shifted before he got to do anything in the first battle)

wail of the banshee killing six pit fiends with one spell

my all out charge attack+bull rush into prismatic wall that finished off Asmodeus
