I wonder how much Captain Marvel would have made had it not been strategically released between Infinity War and Endgame. Looking back there were maybe high expectations given that Brie Larson was a recent Oscar winner. But Captain Marvel had so much comic presence that we, uh, all forgot to include her on our tier lists. Birds of Prey is also an interesting case because Margot Robbie went to town on the Box Office in Barbie. She and Scarlet Johannson are both great, talented actresses who are also, however, very much what we would traditionally call "eye-candy" .

I’m not sure what point you are making. Captain Marvel was helped by its scheduling, undoubtedly, but was also a well reviewed film. Your eye candy comment seems like a non sequitur.

I thought somebody mentioned sex-appeal not that far upthread. I could be mistaken. It is not entirely unrelated to how they are both A-list actors though.

A great many cinemas have closed down. Others have ripped out a great many seats (to put in larger more comfortable ones). They couldn’t go back to pre-Covid levels even if people wanted to. There isn't the capacity.

I predict at least one of those will flop, two will “disappoint”.

Be interesting to see. I suspect you're right on this one

Ratings are not calculated based on the population of the United States. Again shifting goalposts. Look at the entirety of what I said in that post where I first gave that number and quit cherry picking.

Numbers support my argument though.
. Outside comic book fans (theres very few of them comparatively) and fans of a show ending on CW she hasn't had a near constant pop culture presence.

Thats not fatal by itself. Unlike MCU though they haven't had a string of high profile successes to lead into elevating her. Thats probably the main reason. Obscure character.

Scarface might have tge same trajectory that characters even more obscure. It has a vastly lower budget and with horror doing comparative gangbusters it might be a surprise hit as its what's hot atm.

Show me an A-list actor who isn't conventionally attractive. There are a few, but the norm is unreasonably good looking. This is not news.
I was thinking about this on my over to the the theatre (I have seen Toy Story 5 since I last posted). I probably should have used "bombshell" instead of "eye-candy" . It may have been more illustrative. And yes, I also thought about how it applies to men too: like, do we think that if Don Cheadle had played Killmonger instead of War Machine that nearly as many people who have thought "Killmonger was right," ? Michael B. Jordan is a hunk. Any straight man even ought to be able to see that. I am sure that fact was a boon to Sinners as well.
