[Table Top Wargames] General Discussion [+]

@dbm I’m so impressed by your Ultramarine paint job!
Thanks, it was basic but painted to ‘tournament standard’. I did take some of them to Warhammer World one year, and entered GW’s 40k tournament with my Eldar.

I could do a decent basic paint job, but didn’t really enjoy it enough to sustain painting lots of new minis. I have a part-assembled ‘new’ space marine army in storage which I might get round to finishing if I end up doing a bit more war gaming again.

My Five Parsecs From Home Crew: Two of six models painted. IS4U (Nickname: I-Smile-4-U or Smiley) the battlebot with a battle visor, heavy armor and a military rifle. Added some highlights on Brutus the K'Erin enforcer-brawler. I'm a tabletop painter. If it looks good at arms length, I'm happy.
Models from Core Space, Crates by Micro Art Studio, Barricades by Mantics.

I am fascinated by skirmish games but dont actually play them. I buy them, I read them, I watch videos about them ect.

Im not really interested in the competitive wargames scene, but i like the idea of larger scale tactical combat and integrated those in a RPG experience.

Ive even been playtesting a homebrewed RPG based around skirmish rules where every player controls a small warband so combats might be 4 figures per player and your running good sized combat. Trying to find a mix between speed and tactical choices so it engaging.
I'm interested in this concept as well, and have been playing with some ideas. My version integrates it with the RPG system and has very simple rules for each player. Would love to compare notes if you are interested.

Recently, I have been running some chainmail games. I don't have too much experience with wargaming, and it is easy to get RPG players to buy in to chainmail because of the history. I'm working on an updated presentation of the rules (a retro-clone, of sorts). But then, also want to try some more recent rulesets that would mesh well with RPGs. I've received recommendations for De Bellis Antiquitatis. If folks know of other systems worth trying, I'd be interested in those too.

I would love to be playing more BattleTech, but my friends and I who play it can only seem to get together maybe twice per year to do so.

I live vicariously through @payn ’s game play reports 😁
Working on a summer bash. 3 player vs 3 player company on company reenactment of an Operation Guerro battle. One side list builds with Capellans and Free Worlds League vs Fedcom on the other. Gonna be great!

6K BV to form a lance of 4 mechs. Ill give each side a couple of vehicles and some platoons of infantry. Ill get pics.

And you painted them all! (Stares at boxes of unpainted minis)
