Anyone interested in a modern fantasy hex & counter wargame I would recommend Burning Banners, Great game, and great art. Maps are gorgeous.

Burning Banners: Rage of the Witch Queen is a fantasy wargame for two to six players. Fast playing and intuitive, a whopping 29 scenarios range from short campaigns with 2 Kingdoms and one map, to the entire 12-year war, in which 6 kingdoms battle over four maps. The rules include a quick-playing Basic Game as well as an Advanced Game which introduces Magic, Heroes, and Monsters guarding powerful treasures.

March 1” Armies and Heroes through huge, lovingly detailed hexes. Explore a vast, detailed fantasy world encompassing four mounted game maps with six unique kingdoms and dozens of troop types. Designed and illustrated by acclaimed fantasy artist, Christopher Moeller!

A Kickstarter Expansion should be coming this year.

Aww, I came here to discuss the film!

"The only way to win is not to play." Deep stuff, Joshua, but I don't know how I'm supposed to have money for food without taking part in capitalism.

Never mind, I'll show myself out.

Block war games are fun too. I have Samurai Battles from GMT and Wizard Kings by Columbia Games. WK is easy to run solo.

Castle Archon on YouTube has a very good intro vid and How to play video series.

No it wasn't. They were separate companies, run by separate people, that fhen merged.
They were separate companies in a technical sense, but it was Games Workshop who co-founded Citadel with Bryan Answell in 1978 and then wholly absorbed it at a later date. Games Workshop came first in 1975 and Citadel in 1978. I'm not sure when Citadel was absorbed fully into GW though.

In the war game (not board game) category, which game does the best 'fantasy RPG battle' simulation according to you?
I don't know about best, but I had a lot of fun with Chronopia in the late 1990s. It was more of a skirmish level fantasy war game rather than a big army affair like Warhammer fantasy.

I own a bunch of Wizard Kings stuff I've never played and will probably never play. I'm not sure how they came to be in my possession.

I've been burn too many times in the past, by my 'group'. Now, I only buy a starter set to test the waters.
One of my buddies, who ranks war gaming as his #1 hobby and role-playing #2, watched a battle report and liked what he saw so has just ordered another army. It was a pretty safe bet all considered. 🙂

I am genuinely excited by it in a way I haven’t been for table-top battling in a long time. Got a stack of paints on order (my old stash have all dried out, not unsurprisingly) so some assembly over the weekend.

Having a wargaming buddy is perfect. Have fun. Let us know how it goes and what you found interesting with the rules and the Warpath game experience.
