Taking 10 While Pressed

One of my players mentioned looking for something he was certain he had seen that allowed a character to take 10 on a skill check while pressed. (he's a "hide in the middle of combat" flavored rogue)

Now that he's mentioned it, I'm kinda thinking that I do actually remember seeing it somewhere. We didn't spot it in the feats, and before we delved into magic items, I figured I'd ask for help here.

There are a few feats/abilities/items that will allow you to take 10 when pressed, but as a rule a roll is required. The reference is PHB pg. 179; "Checking Without Rolls."

Any idea what any of those items or feats might be? He couldn't find any.

Sorry, I can't remember where I saw any of them. I recall reading about them, but they weren't pertinent to the character I was playing.

The only thing that I can think of that sounds remotely like what you're describing is the rules for passive perception and insight. You add 10+Mods and it's basically there to represent you "taking 10". I think that there might have been a reference to taking 20 given enough time (ie- a day and access to a library might allow you to take 20 on a History check), but that might just be a houserule our DM uses.

Secondly, if the person looking for this rule is a "hide in the middle of combat rogue" then I'm assuming he wants to take 10 on his stealth check or something? If so, I definitely don't remember anything about taking 10 on such an important and immediate roll.
