Team America World Police -- hilarious

I saw the new trailer for this when I went to see "Shaun of the Dead" last weekend. The trailer had me laughing so hard, my sides were hurting and I had tears in my eyes!

Which was a good preparation for "Shaun of the Dead," because it had me laughing so hard, my sides were hurting and I had tears in my eyes -- again!

I can't wait for this movie. You can view the trailer here. (although I'm not sure if this is the new one)

Now see, I thought the humor of the trailers was in how unfunny they are. Other than the Kim Jong Il joke nothing really struck me as jokey (and, well, the fact that they're all puppets). The satire seems to lie in the general absurdity of everything blowing up, like the trailer itself is a send-up of action movie trailers in general.

I wonder if the whole movie's going to be like this? It'd be just like Matt and Trey to do a semi-serious action movie the whole way through, and then just drop a punchline at the end.

And then they'll bounce up and down and sing "I got you kinda! I got you kinda!"

Well what I was laughing at wasn't the jokes but how ridiculous the whole thing looks. The little choppy steps the puppets take when they are "running," the absurdity of the kung fu fight at the end of the trailer, etc.

Which is, I believe, intentional. I think they aren't going to play it for laughs, but play everything semi-serious, which will be so absurd when done by puppets that it will be freakin' hilarious.

I'm willing to bet that Matt and Trey got the idea to do this movie as soon as they found out that the "Thunderbirds" movie was going to be live action rather than done with puppets, which is what made the old TV series such a campy cult favorite. I'm sure they were thinking, "No, it would be better (funnier) if it was done with puppets. So let's do are own movie spoof with puppets, and show them how badly they missed the boat."

Plus I've read that there's a sex scene with plenty of nudity. The link

Their original statement when they announced that they were gonna do
a puppet movie went pretty much like that.

Originally, their intent was to do an R rated movie of the Thunderbirds. Since the live action version was in the works when they proposed it, they went back to the drawing board to do a "Thunderbirdsesque" action movie (they just thought the whole marionette thing was hilarious). The idea originally came from them dubbing their own dialogue over a Thunderbirds episode.

What I can't wait for is the director's cut NC-17 DVD version to be released :D

Yeah graphic puppet sex!

I heard they wanted to do a parody of The Day After Tomorrow but the studio couldn't "Pull the Right Strings" (no pun intended). :p

I'm hoping for the Unrated NC-17 version on DVD next year. They said they had to chop the crapola out of it to get it down to an R rating.
