Tell me about Warhammer Fantasy Battle 6th ed. for a non minis fan.

I saw an online ad for a really cheap 288 page Warhammer Fantasy Battles book (copyright 2000) which I think is the 6th edition. I played the Warhammer FRPG in the 80s and liked it a lot. I bought the Illustrated Encyclopedia for the World of Warhammer a couple years ago and liked it a lot. I love the art and the world and the atmosphere of the Warhammer world. I've used the Chaos gods in my D&D games and the world continues to be an interest for me.

I do not, however, play minis games and I'm not interested in doing so.

Is anyone familiar with the 2000 rules book and be able to tell me how much and how in-depth the neat world info is in the book and how good the art is. I know there is a lot of minis rules info, painting guides and pictures of minis, but I believe there is also stuff I would be interested in such as magic descriptions, army descriptions, monster and race descriptions, character descriptions, world info, and great art.

I also found after my recent move that I now have a local Games Workshop store on my commute route and they have neat looking current army books etc.

You might be better off with a WFRP book than a WFB book if you want roleplay elements. 1st and 2nd edition are out there, with 3rd coming out soon. I don't remember the 1e book all that well, but the 2e book is full of descriptive fluffy stuff.

If you really want the WFB book, this might not the be the best place to get a lot of good responses.

The 1e WFRP book was, IIRC, thicker than the 2e core book, and had stuff in it that wasn't in the 2e book (for example, there were some maps & descriptions of common locations -- an inn, a lockhouse, etc. -- that were in the 1e core book, but moved to the 2e GM's screen accessory). However, I don't remember how the two books compared in terms of info on nations, gods, Chaos, etc.

You can get the 2e in PDF form at EN World PDF Store - RPG PDF downloads, though.

If you can get it for a steal, why not?

I don't own any Warhammer Fantasy rulebooks, but if they are anything like the Warhammer 40K rulebooks, there is a decent amount of "fluff" . . . but not worth the full price of the book if all you are interested in is roleplay.
