I prefer sesame to poppy seed on my bagels ... but I do like an everything bagel

I honestly don't have a big opinion on Montreal vs New York ... though I suppose in today's climate I should side with Montreal, but I do prefer bagels simply topped and open faced. So either butter or cream cheese, maybe lox if you're fancy ... but once it starts to look like a sandwich I'm thinking a bun or bread would be better.

I'm in the US northeast, and we're justifiably proud of our bagels (and pizza). Enough that it doesn't need fancy toppings to shine.

So a good pumpernickel with cream cheese, maybe scallions in the cream cheese, is all you need.

If you want to just focus on toppings though, then taylor ham(/pork roll), egg and cheese.

Bagels frustrate me, because a lot of the things that make a differently-flavored bagel are just on the outside of the bagel. Everything bagels are delicious, but half the bits fall off! That's just mean.

Couple weekends ago I picked up three bagels to use at a camping trip breakfast the next day. One of the three was an everything bagel... I'm not sure what I was thinking expecting just one plastic bag to contain its everything smell. Two zip lock bags around the original plastic bag almost did it. I think I want a bag competition where they see how many it takes to stop someone from being able to tell what kind of bagel is in it from the small outside the bag.

I like a bagel either with just some butter, or I'll make a full savory bagel sandwich - either with egg, sausage or bacon, and cheese (for breakfast) or with deli meat, cheese and whatever else sounds good at the moment.

Either way, that bagel will be nicely toasted.

Great: now I want one right now. Thanks, thread! ;)
