THE HEROES OF DYVERS CHAPTER 7: CLARE'S ERRAND

GM:
ADDITIONAL INFO: There three, main auras in the room:

1. The hot winds gusting around (moderate evocation.)

2. The staff (moderate evocation)

3. The lattice (strong transmutation)

The statues are real creatures, not automatons; they are not summoned, either.

GM: ONE LAST THING: You have a feeling that the lattice is firmly attached to the platform somehow, and that the staff is likely being firmly held in place by the lattice. Removing either one is going to be a chore.

Lathir shrugs his shoulders and turns the palms of his hands upward. "I have some considerable shapeshifting abilities, and I can summon and elemental, maybe an air elemental. I can also transmute rock to mud, even if in another form than my own, which may get rid of one of those gargoyles, but that is only one."

"So, let's try to clear the gargoyles first? We'll see how fighting and breath-holding work in such a hot room. Ready?" the monk prepares to step into the room once he gets nods from the group.

GM: Posting on behalf of Sylvar, whose RL player is on vacation.

Crystal Lattice CL: 8th (Dispel Magic DC: 8+11 = DC 19)
Sylvar's Check: 1d20+10
Needed: 9 or better on d20.
Roll: (13) = Total Dispel Check: 23 (Success.)
Suppression Duration: 2 Rounds (12 seconds!) Move fast!

Standing inside the hallway, Sylvar is still easily in range of affecting the lattice with Dispel Magic.

Sylvar targets the lattice, which is holding the staff locked within itself. Sylvar's spell is potent, easily overcoming the lattice's enchantment. The lattice immediately goes dormant, and its "leaves" all spread open and lay flat, like a flower in bloom, releasing the staff from their grip. The staff is still standing straight, barely supported by the two, bottom crystal leaves. It will now be a simple task to pluck the staff from its resting place, provided someone can actually reach it.

Sylvar says, "Move quick! You have about 10 seconds before the lattice recovers its enchantment!"

Kamen was already moving before Tams words reached him, he was already at the entrance before mage did his work, eyeing the right side platforms. He dashes in.

OOC: going to his right, hopefully, the platforms hold. Move 60'. Is the taking of staff free interaction?

Lathir was hoping for some input from the others with regard to his tactical options, but now speed has become something of a necessity. In the space of a breath, his talent with wildshape is as natural as any other motion that he could make and a single step toward the room his human form becomes like that of a rather large eagle, not as gargantuan as a Roc but certainly the size of a very young one and far larger than any eagle.

He takes to the air, flapping to get above Kamen and heads straight for the staff, intent on grabbing it and exiting the room before needing to deal with any of the gargoyles. He figures that if the staff is out of the room, the party can rremain away from the lava and handle threats on their own terms.

GM:
I am treating Kamen's post as his INTENTED course of action. Same goes for Lathir. Djyn won overall initiative, so I am waiting to hear from him what he intends to do before moving on to Kamen.

INITIATIVE ORDER:
=================
Djyn: 25a
Kamen: 25b
Alpha Statue: 25c
Kleborn: 23
Dewydd: 20
Sylvar:17
Tam: 15
Lathir: 13a
Travis: 13b
Lenny: 11
Thallok: 8
Other Statues: 5

GM:
Kamen's Question: You can do a double move action, taking your first move action to reach the platform, and then you could grab the staff as part of your second move action. If your speed is 60, that means that you can cover 120 ft. worth of moving, while grabbing the staff during your run. That's very doable,

However, the problem comes in the jumping. It will require 3 jump checks to make it to the center platform; jump checks are part of your move action. You only have 2 move actions, so you wouldn't have enough actions to reach the platform in a single round by hopping from disc to disc.

You COULD try to skip the discs, and jump from the ledge to the platform (a distance of 40 ft. to the edge of the platform!!) but you're looking at a DC of 40, and I don't have to tell you how bad failing this check would be! The good news is that since you're in the hallway, you DO have the 20' running start distance.

But if you make it, the next jump will be STANDING long jump (no running start) which would be DC 80.
