Munchkin, the legendary card game from Steve Jackson Games, illustrated by John Kovalic, launched in 2001 and is a parody of roleplaying game tropes. It has been expanded many times with sets based on various themes from Cthulhu to Marvel to Rick and Morty, with various more general sets based on zombie, pirates, vampires, and more. In addition, there have been various boardgames, it' won awards, and got second edition this year. In short, it's iconic.

And now... it's going to a roleplaying game. After parodying TTRPGs for all these years, it's now going to be one. Lynnvander Studios has teamed by with Steve Jackson Games to make a 5.5E-powered tabletop roleplaying game called--appropriately--"Munchkin® 5.5E RPG".

Lynnvander Studios has made games based on Buffy, Doctor Who, Star Trek, Terminator, Shadowrun, and more.

It'll be powered by the D&D 5.5E system, and contain all the classic Munchkin monsters, items, and so on. The game's Munchkin 5.5e Ye Olde Rulebook is an adventure and sourcebook for D&D. The Deadliest Dungeon is an accompanying book in which players can "fight new monsters, trigger new and interesting traps, and hoarde useful loot."

The rulebook contains new subclasses lik the Oath of the Killjoy Paladin and the College of Nihilism Bard, four new species (one of which is the Mimic!), feats, spells, magic items, the works. There's also a new subsystem they're calling the "Pun-spiration" system.

From the looks of the Backerkit pre-launch page, there's also a ton of add-ons, including cards, a rubber duck, standees, map packs, and more. Plus an early bird silver coin. The crowdfunder launches in October.
