Spoilers The Mandalorian and Grogu

We rewatched the original film just a few nights ago. It's still amazing. I'm sad that Star Wars films aren't even really event movies anymore. I have zero interest in this one. When it's free I might get around to it, but it seems like a chore.

I literally took the day off work and made it an event.
Here's the office whiteboard with our leave on it...

I enjoyed it.

Just saw the Mando movie. It was fun! I think they did a good job making it enough of a standalone film that you don’t need to have seen the show or much else to enjoy it, but there were also some fun little callbacks and Easter eggs for us Star Wars nerds.

Embo the bounty hunter from the Clone Wars got his live-action debut.

Zeb got to have an action scene, complete with his bo-rifle.

There were all sorts of classic Star Wars monsters from the various Dejarik beasts in the arena to the Amani in the swamp and Embo’s anooba hound.

Rotta needing rescue again was a little silly, but it was super-fun to see a big strong Hutt fighting instead of just sitting around like a big slug like all previous Hutts (even the animated ones) have done.

It was nice to see that Mando still has his modified Naboo starfighter, even if he didn’t use it in the movie.

Sigourney’s Col Ward was a nice addition to the cast of Adelphi Squadron, and it was nice to see Filoni’s Trapper and Capt Carson Teva in the mix.

It was even fun to see Nar Shadaa in the background of the shots of Nal Hutta from space.

One thing I particularly enjoyed was the various POV shots, like of Embo scrambling up onto Mando’s roof or Mando entering the wrecked gun runner vessel (which reminded me a lot of an flying armadillo or something).

Even those mismatched droid mercenaries were cool. They appear in one or both of the Jedi games, right?

Mando didn’t use his whistling birds, but he did get to use his jetpack. He also picked up a disruptor rifle near the end.

Grogu had his little blue cookies and his armor.

I’m glad that they didn’t have Grogu know how to use the Force to extract the poison even if he could close Mando’s wound. The scene with him befriending the swamp lizard guy and being given the antidote was a nice touch.

There was some good classic Star Wars humor in the movie as well, like Grogu not thinking that Mando wouldn’t fit in the Anzellans’ tiny ship or when he repeatedly tried to get Mando to fit into the little mud igloo he’d built.

Honestly, my only complaint with this movie is its name.

After the stumbles Favreau and Filoni had with Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka S1, and Mando S3, I was worried that this movie would be more of the same, but no! It was good, clean, classic Star Wars fun. It felt like a fun, big budget extended side quest episode of the show with no connection to the big New Republic vs Imperial Remnants stuff they’ve been building towards in this time period.

I liked it had fun.

Second best Disney movie after Rogue One and ahead of AotC, TPM.
My son and I really liked it as well. For me, though, for Disney movies it would go...

1. Rogue One
2. Solo
3. Mandalorian and Grogu

It's in that order primarily because Solo felt like a movie, where Mando felt like the next season got scrapped and re-written as a 2 hour episode. It didn't really feel like a movie to me.

I thought it was fine. I enjoyed most of it, although there were a few too many CGI fights for my taste, and I was surprised by how high the body count was. I did enjoy watching Rotta the Hutt fight - I guess Jabba was just out of shape and gave a false view of general Hutt athleticism. And I liked the other Bounty Hunter, who (per Wookiepedia) has been in a lot of other stuff I haven't seen.

I've been to see every Star Wars movie (admittedly only the revised versions of ANH and ESB, as I was too young when the originals came out) and this won't stop me going to the next one (assuming there is a next one).

I don't care that the movie was "pointless" and I don't even care that it could have been a couple of episodes of the TV show instead - I don't have any streaming services (don't watch enough TV to make it worth my while) so it suits me that I could watch some Mandalorian in the cinema.

However much the Twins paid for those turbolasers, it was too much. When Mando flew the ship straight into the palace I thought maybe they weren't calibrated to stop a sudden, low-level approach from a short distance away. But they proved equally useless when the X-Wings attacked after appearing from high orbit.

Decent lis I liked Solo

Hollywood actions movies are primarily made for the 12-14 to 25-27 year old crowd. When you have a weekly allowance, can travel by yourself AND before you have kids and are forced to watch Disney kid movies, on endless repeat.

For me, it's the original movie trilogy in order, Rogue One and Solo (which we like a lot). Anything else doesn't exist.

The animation on the two big robots at the end made me think of stop-motion style. I'm not sure if they were actually practical or just imitating but they were great to look at.

Of course I wanted to see I Love Boosters and got outvoted so I can't forgive this movie for that, but those two robots and the dragon snake almost make up for it. I also had not considered how gross a slimy swamp tunnel full of intelligent slugs is before I saw this movie.
