Distortions from the novel, sure, but I generally think it's a mistake to think of characters from film adaptations as the same characters from the source. The Aragorn of the films is a different character and, as you point out, one that works better in a film. I think the vast majority of Jackson's changes were improvements, in the context of cinema.

I also don't think he went far enough with altering Frodo and Sam's story: RotK would have had a much more powerful ending had they died together on Mt. Doom, having sacrificed themselves to save Middle Earth. Gets rid of the deus ex eagles and of the multiple false endings that make the end of the film so ponderous. But I think that would have been a step too far for most fans of the books, and probably for Jackson himself.
I can respect that viewpoint. Obviously Tolkien's belief in the eucatastrophe was pretty important to him, but the movie might have struck even harder to the heart if it had been changed as you suggest.

For me I wrestle back and forth on the extended endings. And nowadays on the loss of The Scouring of the Shire. I didn't used to think it was as important as it is. Nowadays it seems more important to the story that the Shire didn't remain untouched by the reach of evil and the war.

Some changes I really think were not needed and don't make the movies better. Gimli is kind of a matter of taste, but some of his lines do detract from the movies, for me. For another example, Aragorn's false death eats up screen time which I think could have been better used for parts of the original story. YMMV, of course.

LotR was visually cohesive in a way that many directors, costumers, and cinematographers could definitely learn from.
Very, very much so. The costumes are an example so many movies could learn from, striking a great, maybe perfect, balance between actually having COLOR and still looking worn and lived-in, plus maintaining consistent and plausible visual styles.

Nolan's films are all technically brilliant. For my taste, his writing is his weakness, but he's still better than most. Objectively, it's impossible to label him a "hack" if you know anything at all about filmmaking. You might not like his movies, but he's not remotely a hack.
I do love a film where it’s too dark to see anything and the dialogue is mixed so low you can’t hear anything. Though I’m sure I’ll be told that this is actually a genius artistic choice and not just bad mixing and lighting.

Perhaps hack is the wrong word - his films are carefully constructed and crafted. The writing is just bad in most of them and I can’t get much enjoyment. If he was a true hack like Bay I could switch brain off and relax, but I know I’ll have to listen to the fanboys explain how “love is the only twuly important force in the univewse” is actually a profound statement and not hokey pablum.

The Scouring was the only thing that I really missed, in the movies. It not only showed that The Shire had been a victim but that the four heroes had grown, both figuratively and literally.

Im more interested in its box office. Solves a lot of interwebz arguments.

Mando movie
He Man
Super Girl
Odyssey

These 4 have * beside them in terms of flop or not.

See how it plays out hit or miss.
I'm hoping Lanterns does well.
It's a tough sell though to a non comic audience - and GL isn't nobody but he ain't the big
Supes Spidey Bats Hulk etc

As a non comics guy who has nevertheless enjoyed several superhero films, the Green Lantern is not only less well known than a lot of the other properties, but it’s also an inherently silly concept (sillier than usual, for comics). I’d have to hear rave reviews to have any interest in the film (Or possibly be stuck on a long flight with nothing to do).

The products of the ring have always struck me as silly. Guy Gardier in "Superman" made silly work though.
