Cubicle 7's new version of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay was announced in late 2025. Timed to coincide with the game's 40th anniversary, 5th Edition is now available for pre-order from Cubicle 7. And if you pre-order it now, you get the PDF immediately! Alternatively, you can simply buy the PDF from DriveThruRPG.

The classic British fantasy TTRPG launched in 1986 by Games Workshop. Over the years it has been published by Hogshead Publishing, Green Ronin, Fantasy Flight Games, and--currently--Cubicle 7, who launched 4th Edition back in 2018 along with a re-release of the iconic The Enemy Within campaign. The game is set in a 'grimdark' fantasy setting called the 'Old World', with various regions very loosely based on countries in the Middle Ages. One of the game's predominant themes is the battle against Chaos, as represented by beastmen, mutated ratmen (Skaven), and dark cults.

Cubicle 7's CEO Dominic McDowall, in an interview with Wargamer, indicated that this 5th Edition will be backwards compatible with 4th edition, retaining the classic d100 system, and set in a similar time period. There will be a conversion document of sorts, but most older material will be usable with ease.

The hardcover will not ship until Spring 2027, but the PDF is available now to those who pre-order.

PDF is $29.99 on Drivethru. I saw it yesterday.

I just picked up the 4th edtion book on sale about a month ago. At the time i didn't realize 5th edtion was coming out.
There is half a page of terminology changes as rules differences and simplified success levels and momentum/Advantage. They even explain how to use the older rules that call out things in this edition that have changed. Its still 4ed and now that I understand this the idea that they are calling it 5ed is a mistake IMO. People will think its a big jump in rules to a nearly completely different game. I never owned any 4ed but now I know I can use those books with no problem.

I do have the 4e pdf on DriveThruRPG…last downloaded in 2023, probably why I barely remember reading it. If this isn’t a big change, I’ll stick with my 4e PDF and try and do a better job of reading and retention :)

I got it the day it was released. Overall I like it and think it is an improvement. If you are thinking of getting into WFRP, and have not already bought the 4th edition rules, I would get the 5th edition. I feel that there would be not issues using prior 4th edition material with the 5th edition. There is already a thread discussing the changes, so I won't repeat myself here. I will warn those looking to buy the PDF to expect typos and errors. Cubicle 7 is infamous for releasing PDFs well before the print books so its customers can provide free copyediting services. You can expect a number of reissued versions of the PDF to be delivered on DTRPG from now until spring 2027.
