you may be right, at best it is ambivalent. I prefer it to undo the whole Summer Flame and beyond timeline. In my canon that never happened in the first place ;)
Thank you for teaching me a new word... ambivalent. Had to look it up. Ambivalent is how I felt about the Destinies Trilogy the second time I read it. The third time I read it though is a certainty not ambivalent. Once you see it, you can't unsee it
tastes differ. To me Second Generation and Summer Flame ruined everything that made DL and I certainly would have taken the world in a different direction than the 5th Age did, more of a continuation than this complete overhaul that made nothing matter that came before. Never cared for the Dragon Overlords either
It’s confusing to hear this because Summer Flame is what Dragonlance is all about. I love Summer Flame. Summer Flame is the high point... the climax. It's what Chronicles and Legends was leading towards.

I read Chronicles and Legends then the Second Generation. By the time I finished Summer Flame, I was hooked. I had to know what happened next and I jumped into the War of Souls. The 5th age and alien dragons... what's not to love? It's supposed to be a world where dragons rule

Dragons of Summer Flame was originally set to be a trilogy, but it got shrunk down to one novel. It didn't read the best because of that.
Maybe it was supposed to be a trilogy but maybe because it wasn't makes it so good. That shouldn't matter if it's canon or not

Think of it this way. It's like an artist looking back on a prior painting and saying that it's not their best work, even though you and I may love it.
DaVinci didn't like the Mona Lisa. But it's what he's known for. Summer Flame is Weis & Hickman's Mona Lisa

to me it is the undoing of everything that Chronicles and Legends did, not a high point but a mistreatment

I dont believe it supposed to be a world where dragons rule. It is a world dragons once ruled, and attempted again through Chronicles / Legends, but failed. That felt the point of those two series. And is supposed to be world dragons ruled, why did the later series undo that?
Summer Flame took it in a direction I didn't like, let alone the whole Dragon Overlord stuff.

I don't think it's "a lot of others". I think it's "a small few"
I think the fact we are having to debate whether there will be an omnibus with Summer Flame, or a reprint with the Classic Dragonlance label, with no apparent llans uet, suggests it isnt that clear cut.
I see a lot of activity of rereads of Chronicles and Legends, but very little for Summer Flame onwards.

Regardless of the popularity that may or may not be there for Summer Flame, I believe when people think of Weis and Hickman, it is Chronciles and Legends they are known for, not Summer Flame.

The way it's left off, Second Generation, Summer Flame, and the Age of Mortals (Fifth Age) are all still possibilities. It's up to the reader to decide what is true to them.
i prefer this view. That it is open ended, and I follow Mambas view that it has stopped summer flame etc happening in this new time.
So the future Astinus describes as wel will never see is Summer Flame onwards.
