There's ANOTHER official Elric RPG in the works... this one from Free League!

Hot on the heels of Goodman Games announcing The Classic Era of Elric, Free League has announced its own officially licensed take on Moorcock's world with the Legends of Stormbringer RPG.

Legends of Stormbringer will use Free League's Dragonbane game engine, and has apparently been in the works for several months.

Today, we are thrilled to announce Legends of Stormbringer, a new officially licensed tabletop roleplaying game based on the iconic fantasy works of Michael Moorcock, planned for release in 2027.

Legends of Stormbringer will carry you into the Young Kingdoms – a world of dying empires, warring gods, and doomed heroes – and bring Moorcock’s richly imagined setting to the tabletop using rules mechanics based on our award-winning Dragonbane RPG. The game will feature the same accessible, dynamic, and deadly approach that has made Dragonbane one of our most celebrated titles.

Returning to the Young Kingdoms as setting writer is Richard Watts, whose work on previous Stormbringer RPGs helped define how generations of roleplayers have experienced Moorcock’s world.

“This has been in the works for several months and we’re thrilled to finally share the news,” said Tomas Härenstam, CEO of Free League Publishing. “We are honored to bring Elric and the Young Kingdoms to the tabletop once more.”

Goodman Games cut ties with Judges Guold so I dont think there's any neo nazis to worry about.

According to JG, Goodman has been passing them money under the table for years, even for projects Goodman claimed they weren't getting paid.
Goodman has not addressed these specific challenges when they were brought to his attention.
So I'm unwilling to support them until I hear otherwise. And I will make sure every potential Goodman Games customer knows about their history of dirty money and shady deals with bad people.

I used to play the old Stormbringer system back in the 90’s and I’m playing Dragonbane now, so I’m very interested to see how Free League’s BRP descendent system gets adapted to Elric!

Distant BRP offshoot by this point. It's like a d20 roll under version of BRP.

Interesting, certainly more interested in this than a 5e version. Probably needs an adjusted magic system though.

Curious that the license is not exclusive and that a second TTRPG is in the works in parallel.

Dragonbane is a d20-based offshoot, so spiritually similar but quite different in practice.

So Free League must have always maintained some association with Moorcock? If so, that’s cool. When I read about Goodman Games licensing Elric I thought to myself. “Ah, that’s too bad… I’m not supporting GG and I really would’ve much rather seen a Dragonbane take on it!” And now here it is!

I'm just happy to hear that Moorecock is able to net twice the money on a ttrpg license.

I'm intrigued on how the two companies are going to cover the setting.
