There's ANOTHER official Elric RPG in the works... this one from Free League!

Hot on the heels of Goodman Games announcing The Classic Era of Elric, Free League has announced its own officially licensed take on Moorcock's world.
Hot on the heels of Goodman Games announcing The Classic Era of Elric, Free League has announced its own officially licensed take on Moorcock's world with the Legends of Stormbringer RPG.

Legends of Stormbringer will use Free League's Dragonbane game engine, and has apparently been in the works for several months.

Today, we are thrilled to announce Legends of Stormbringer, a new officially licensed tabletop roleplaying game based on the iconic fantasy works of Michael Moorcock, planned for release in 2027.

Legends of Stormbringer will carry you into the Young Kingdoms – a world of dying empires, warring gods, and doomed heroes – and bring Moorcock’s richly imagined setting to the tabletop using rules mechanics based on our award-winning Dragonbane RPG. The game will feature the same accessible, dynamic, and deadly approach that has made Dragonbane one of our most celebrated titles.

Returning to the Young Kingdoms as setting writer is Richard Watts, whose work on previous Stormbringer RPGs helped define how generations of roleplayers have experienced Moorcock’s world.

“This has been in the works for several months and we’re thrilled to finally share the news,” said Tomas Härenstam, CEO of Free League Publishing. “We are honored to bring Elric and the Young Kingdoms to the tabletop once more.”

Further details – including crowdfunding plans and additional creative team announcements – will be revealed at a later date.

How’s Dragonbane? I like Elric, and I like Free League’s The One Ring/5e LOTR. They make beautiful books, but I don’t have a sense of how Dragonbane plays.

Combat is very dangerous. But some monsters will autohit, and do weird things with their attacks.

A good combo is having a bard with the right instrument. Think it was a lyre. Can give your team advantage on roll, or the other team disadvantage. Then have at least one knight in full armour as a tank.

edit:
the full armour + helmet reduces the damage you take from an attack by 8. The right instrument, will have the longest range for effect, and lets you use your bardic ability for just one Willpower per round. The bagpipe is the best as it gives both effects (Increases range from 10 meters to 50).

You can normally only do one thing per round. Use an heroic ability, attack, defend/parry. Some Heroec abilites let you dodge/parry more times, butit cost usually like 3 willpower per use.

Healing potions are expensive as heck. You do not get much treasure in form of coins etc. What you can become "rich" by is collecting the weapons of the opponents and sell that. You cna suffer some rather catastrophic effects by being taken down to 0 HP or failing certain rolls.

Both in 2027.

The Goodman Games Backerkit page says June 2027.

I wonder if that means that Backerkit will have an Elric month around that time. That would be a good opportunity for smaller 3PP to create related projects like adventures.

Unless either publisher can provide some special provision, 3PP would have to make "inspired by" adventures with no shared logo or branding. I welcome the experiment if it happens.

True.

It's speculation (and wishful thinking) on my part, based upon special months and collaborative events that I've seen on Backerkit.

For example, Megadungeon Month just wrapped up. That included Goodman Games (with their own Whiterock campaign that had 13 different 3PP involved,) Troll Lord Games, Monte Cook, and others involved. There were special rewards and additional content available to those who backed multiple projects.

An Elric Month in 2027 seems plausible.

I would have used that cover too. Nostalgia is a strong force.
Agreed. These are the same covers that were my introduction to Elric when my father took me to his childhood room at his parents' house and gave me his books to read.

Likewise, Dragonbane Kickstarter partially caught my eye because the cover reminded me the art of Elric of Melniboné. That was before I learned that prior editions of DoD used old Elric covers.
