THX1138: The George Lucas Director's Cut goes into theaters this weekend

The DVD comes out Sept. 14. The link

Someone should tell George to leave his old movies alone and concentrate on making Episode III great. Or at least good. Hell, I'd settle for not sucking.

And his ego. The George Lucas Director's Cut? What other director's cut would there be, since he directed it?

I have only vague memories of this film (...most of them involving the colour WHITE for some reason... ;) ). Might be nice to see it again for old time's sake, but I don't remember enough of it to be jumping up and down.

Anyone else have stronger memories? Pro? Con?

I never read about the movie. Everytime I read the title I assumed it was some stupid documentary on his THX surround configuration. he must really like those three letters THX. Do they stand for something I am unaware of?

I don't remember what (if anything) THX stands for, but I do know that Lucas named his soundsystem THX in honor of his first movie. The movie is interesting and worth watching, although I won't be buying the DVD and I really don't see the need for a director's cut (heh, by George Lucas or anybody else for that matter!).

I liked the movie

... kinda felt bad when Kareen Abdul Jabar's character bit the dust in a car crash trying to escape.

(and no, it's not a spoiler ... I think the movie is older than I am!)

In a related story, in the year 2075, George Lucas' mouldering corpse will rise from the grave and spend two full years preparing the 100th anniversary edition of the original Star Wars movie.

And in it, Chewbacca will be the one to kill Greedo.

My money was on Jar Jar :)

I've seen parts of it. Some sort of Orwellian dealie, only with lots and lots of bald women and enough white to look like a detergent/cleaning powder commercial. Or a teeth whitener commercial.

Eh. The trouble with movies like that, is they sort of beat you over the head with the point they are trying to make. I mean, duh, obviously bald women, only having a codename, and being forced to take mind-numbing drugs is bad.

Orwell was a lot more subtle, and IMHO, much more effective at making the same point. Or say Vonnegut, he often does the same thing, but instead of beating over the head with bluntness, he uses absurdity.

Wasn't THX a school project of Lucas'? It was years later adapted into a full feature.

I remember seeing the movie as a kid. It was maybe the first sci-fi I ever saw. I was hooked on sci-fi for fifteen years. I looked everywhere for the movie I'd seeen when I was a kid but I couldn't remember the title (fat chance figuring that out on you own).

In my late teens I finally tracked down the movie and saw it again. It wasn't quite so fantastic I remembered but not horrible either. I just had seen a lot better sci fi in the meantime (when I was looking for THX).

The end is pretty cool. Extremely cool - if you haden't seen the same thing in numerous other films (Matrix Rev?).
