Yesterday I found out that there's going to be an installation of a CF-100 Fighter/Interceptor and an 80% scale mock-up of the AVRO Arrow in Malton, Ontario, Canada and someone in an aviation Facebook group asked if I could go have a look. The Arrow isn't there yet, but the CF-100 "Canuck" is in place.

For those who don't know, the Arrow was an Canadian advanced Fighter/Interceptor project, in the late 1950s/early 1960s, that might well have been the most advanced military aircraft of its time. The project was killed as part of a defence deal with the US. A goodly number of the engineers who were working on the Arrow project went to work for NASA, after the project was shuttered and the test aircraft cut up.

Here's the Canuck.
In highschool, they showed us the movie -and Cool Runnings-. I think the subject was related to some administrative stuff. Like planning and quality or something.

I’ve known for years that Christopher Cross is a damn good guitarist. Rick Beato even did an episode on one of his flashier solos that- inexplicably- got buried in the mix.

However, I didn’t realize that he was active and well-known enough in the biz in 1970 (!) that he was asked to substitute for Ritchie Blackmore in Deep Purple because Blackmore was sick. It was one show in August, on their first American tour.

To add context, the opening act was Eric Johnson, himself a legendary guitarist. And instead of asking EJ to sit in, Cross was tapped for the one time gig.

TIL that the Rockefeller campaign made a major effort to improve outhouse sanitation in the South to combat hookworm and help "restart" the economic engineering of the South. Prior to, southerners were considered "lazy" but many were in fact suffering from anemia brought on by the parasites.

Also, apparently hookworm infection can protect against auto-immunie disorders from allergies to Chrones Disease.

Thanks Radiolab!

And today I found out that the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, in Hamilton, Ontario, released a 1/72 scale diecast model of the Arrow. Already got one on order ❤️
