I drive around in a suburban area all night and on a nightly basis. This summer I've seen more foxes, coyotes, and snakes in neighborhoods. The snakes are mostly harmless but I'm seeing more than I used to. The coyotes are more concerning. They're in people's front yards. You send your 10 year old to take out the trash and he doesn't come back...

I was absolutely shocked. They were acting like it was someone's puppy. By contrast it wouldn't likely have even given me notice, with the distance I had on it. I even typically have my cameras (mirrorless Olympus) set for 'silent shutter" most days.

Most people at this point in our society are completely divorced from the natural world, to them it is just a puppy, or they watched those cute fox video's on youtube.

We never had coyotes around here, until maybe 10 years ago. That's when I saw one in our parking lot, at 3:00am. Thought it was a loose dog at first. During Covid I was out for a walk in the greenbelt area around one of our flood control canals, when I saw two of them jumping through people's back yards. This was around 7:00am. We're in the middle of a large suburban area. The city has almost 800,000 people, at last count.

I've seen coyotes in my city with a better understanding of how to cross the street than many people. More than once at night I've seen one sit at a crosswalk and wait for a car to stop before crossing.

BTW I've found him... :)
Reminded me of the Nigerian preacher who tried to reenact the Bibiic tale of Daniel and the Lions. It ended badly and quickly for him.

And further reminded of other preachers in Africa who have earned their Darwin Award by attempting dumb acts of daredevilry, from attempting to fast for 40 days, getting buried alive, asking their followers to shoot them, and handling venomous snakes...

I read on Wikipedia about his "theories". I'm not sure it's any different from those that believe aliens were the architects of ancient civilization. They both think non-white people were not capable of doing it themselves. It's a real shame in this day and age people are still this ignorant.
Erich Von Däniken was as much a huckster as a racist. Possibly more of the former than the latter.

Not just Africa, though. Venomous snake handling & drinking strychnine is a part of the religious practices of some sects of Pentecostals in the American southeast.🫤

I wouldn’t be surprised to find similar things in other parts of the world.🤷🏾‍♂️
