TRPG or TTRPG?

In a recent D&D community survey, WotC referred to Tabletop Roleplaying Games as TRPG.

This may align with CRPG (Computer Roleplaying Game), but is it correct? And should they know better?

I guess the real question is… TRPG or TTRPG? Which acronym should we use to refer to our own hobby?

The wonders of the English language. I wonder if it also has something to do with everything else being chopped up with texts and abbreviations.

Is Tabletop one or two words, is Role-Playing or Roleplaying. We might start calling it just TRG.

I do notice other words being chopped down instead of using words. A Healing Pot, or just calling it a Pot instead of Potion. Being down HP. I do not hear people asking to pass the PHB or the MM, but do hear DMG.

Clearly, TRPG is shorthand for "Table Roleplaying Game", which I assume refers to an RPG that uses lots of tables, like Rolemaster and AD&D.

I'm not sure where 5e ranks in the "number of tables used" metric, but I guess they're claiming new ground with this unexpected move.

Honestly, not their best controversy in recent times, but I'll give 'em points for originality. I'm sure pitch forks and torches will be ready for this latest outrage.

TTRPG is accepted and commonly used by english-speaking RPG players everywhere. I've never even seen TRPG before. While technically correct since tabletop is a single word, it shows either it was written by someone with a lack of understanding of the basics of the industry or an egotistical disregard for the same to try to redefine it.

Or it's just a typo, no big deal.
