TRPG or TTRPG?

This may align with CRPG (Computer Roleplaying Game), but is it correct?
It's correct if WotC wanted only respondents who play D&D on the tops of tables.

This could have been somebody in marketing who's not part of the RPG community or as simple as a typo.
Or someone without a VIN number, who never visits ATM machines, or who takes the result of the d20, even when it landed on the floor.

I like to think that the largest tabletop con calls them DRPS, Die Role-Playing Spiele.

Somehow feel like this is appropriate for Hasbro trying to make TRPG happen.

I haven't seen "TRPG" used to mean table-top role-playing games, but in principle there's no reason why it can't (or hasn't on other occasions beyond my awareness.)

It does seem to me that, whatever the intention (or lack thereof) behind the WotC use, "TRPG" does slide off the tongue more easily when spoken than does "TTRPG".

I think what the future will probably need is a way to separate RPGs designed for physical tabletop play from those designed for VTT play, and a neutral, central designation for games that support both.

WotC showed with the 5.5e nonsense that they're better at letting the community designate the terms for things like this than having their MBAs and marketeers try and force something.

TTRPG isn’t my favorite acronym, but the distinction it makes is a necessary one in a world with many millions of computer RPG players, and geez, adding two letters for the sake of forestalling at least two paragraphs of utterly pointless and repetitive back-and-forth is an easy win.
