turn resistance

Pretty simple question:

Does turn resistance affect both rolls in the turning process? I know it effects the 1st roll, the maximum hit dice effected. But does it effect the total hit dice turned.

For example, there are 3 two hd ghoul with +2 turn resistance. A cleric succesfully turns 4hd undead so they are effected. He then rolls and gets 6 total hit dice turned.

Are all three turned or only one.

Sorry about the wording , I know this isn't the clearest question.

TURN RESISTANCE

By virtue of superior strength of will or just plain unholy power, some creatures (usually undead) are less easily affected by clerics or paladins.

Turn resistance is an extraordinary ability.

When resolving a turn, rebuke, command, or bolster attempt, added the listed bonus to the creature's Hit Dice total.

(Bold by me)

So in your example, it would be as if the cleric was turning 4-HD ghouls. As such, only one would be turned.

Turn Resistance affects the particular undead with the ability. In your example, you are effectively attempting to turn three 4 HD undead. With your rolls, you turn only one of them.

My group recently encountered some shadows. They are only 3 HD undead, but they have +2 Turn Resistance, which makes them much tougher for the cleric to turn, especially when there is a group of them.
