Two Questions? [Savage Species]

Okay, two questions here.

The first deals with the Half-Dragon template as talked about in the book. On page 19, the book gives an example of a Half Half-Orc/Half-Dragon, and mentions him getting 1 Racial HD. Why doesn't he drop this HD for his class HD instead?

Is there a special rule that stops this?

The other question is about the Survivor PrC. Who would ever take it? It offers no BAB advanement, AND it gives only a d6 HD. A Monk gets all of the abilities it offers, with a better HD, with a better BAB, AND with other Monk powers. Does the class have any use?

Sorry if these have been asked already ... I've been busy and missed a lot of the goings on in the forum.

It takes nine levels of Monk to get Improved Evasion. Survior gets it in 4. And I don't recall Monk's getting uncanny dodge or damage reduction. You take this class to beef another class who doesn't just need fighting prowess. Need a more surviable wizard, give em all these benefits. Hell, give em to a figher. Basicily in five levels you get a 9th level monk ability, a better than 20th level barbarian ability, and the two most useful uncanny dodge abilites. If I found all these abilities in a class that had hit dice and BAB, it would be WAY to powerful. Not something I'd use that often, but an excellent way to beef up villians or a PC that gets beat on.

True the Damage Reduction is useful ... but is it like Barbarian DR? Meaning does it apply to everything, not just Physical attacks?

And I guess I didn't notice the Improved Evasion thing either. Color me suitably chastised.

Still think they should at least get Wizard BAB though. :D

Sounds like true damage reduction. It's 5/-, and the description mentions any "attack". Hmmm... Good question though.

I'll go with that. ;)

I figured the Survivor BAB was a typo, but looking at the example (Dench the Bull), he's a 5th lvl Fighter/2nd lvl Survivor and has a BAB of +5... weird.

The class' DR also says that it stacks (!!) with any other X/- DR the creature may have.

yea just like the Halfling outrider has no BAB listed in S&F and WotC claimed its by design. Then the errata comes out and gives them a BAB. Look forward to this 'Survior' class having the same thing happen

Dont think you're going to get it in this case. With the Outrider, the whole column was omitted from the table. The Survivor actually lists a +0 BAB for all 5 levels.

Besides, Look at the class : Evasion, UD(Dex to AC), Imp Evasion, UD(Flank), All three good saves, and 5/- DR, give it any kind of BAB progression and its a no-brainer for FTR types.

Heck, Yes!! I'd always slow to WIZ BAB to pick up those abilities.

Give up +5 BAB? I'd have to think about it.
