Unearthed Arcana UA subclass second chances

Remathilis

Legend
Lots of unearthed arcana subclasses have been tried and for various reasons (mechanical implementation, unclear theme or general distaste) didn't make it into a proper book. If you could, what subclass would you give a second chance to? Either bring back the concept or give it a second run on execution.

To qualify, it needs to be a subclass that did not make the cut for whatever book it was planned for. (Other UAs like feats or full classes are a different topic). It could be from 5e or 5.5, but probably if WotC was making it be designed for 5.5 compatibly.

A list of all the UAs 5.0 are here:
Personally, I still want the other elemental sorcerers (sea, stone, phoenix) and the twilight druid. I also would have liked to see the brawler make a reappearance one day.

Another attempt at the Strixhaven subs would interest me. Although, I think their path forward isn't via subclasses.

Wasn't there a fiery barbarian? I don't recall the name though

In general I think unearthed arcana should not get a second chance. If the design gets not picked irs dead and the designer responsible does not get a bonus. Because at the moment with things like the villaneous options it just feels like really nor much time is inveated into them before they are thrown put into a public because you can always fix them...

And even ones which sre peinted in many cases could profit from some errata.

Having said that I would like to see a pet druid so in some foem the primeval druid could be interesting, but I guews the Gozilla druid from the villaneous options kind of has too much overlap now.

I did a quick search and did not find the fire barbarian but I can have missed it of course.

The revised Ranger (specifically the 9/9/2015 version, cause they tried to revise it multiple times) is the one I would most like to see revised because I really liked that one and I really do not like where the Ranger ended up in 5.5e.

I’d also like to see the Oath of Treachery come back, it did the Oathbreaker concept much better than the actual Oathbreaker in my opinion - as a fallen Paladin with powers based around deception, instead of an antipaladin with powers themed around evil and necoromancy.

And, although the Raven Queen is admittedly too specific a Patron for how 5e handles Patrons, I did really like the whole gimmick of getting a special familiar that you can actually merge into the body of. I’d love to even just see the mechanical concept get another shot, maybe as an invocation or set of invocations for pact of the chain.

I checked the character sheet. The player had one level dip into Phoenix Sorc.

I want the Phoenix Sorc back

This combination (with barbarian) reminds me of the 4E "Rage of the phonix" barbarian rage power.

I like the phoenix sorcerer (and the raven queen warlock), the problem once again is just that the subclasses have just a too small power budget in general.

The phoenix sorcerer has only 1 per day abilities and the raven queen warlock has mostly non combat power added.

I think this is now a bit better with level3 subclasses in 5.5 but still many concepts would just need a higher power budget to be really cool

Interestingly, the Circle of the Primeval subclass walked so that the Circle of the Titan subclass could run! One of the prevailing bits of feedback the team received at the time for the Circle of the Primeval was that while they liked the companion, they wanted to get big and wreak havoc! Now they can.
