Unearthed Arcana UA subclass second chances

I liked the Fighter/Scout. If it had been made a subclass we likely would have seen more fighter subclasses using Expertise dice. A missed opportunity.

I liked the phoenix and stone sorcerors. Phoenix shares a bit too much with Spellfire, Draconic, and Divine Soul, but the Stone Sorceror's more Gish capabilities aren't something the sorceror has currently.

Brute Fighter was also a good idea, but I think that it would be better as a separate class, or Barbarian subclass instead.

There was also the monster hunter subclass for the Fighter, I think that one has a bit less overlap with the ranger and with the new 2024 Battlemaster one could try to test another superiority dice based subclass again.

Interestingly, the Circle of the Primeval subclass walked so that the Circle of the Titan subclass could run! One of the prevailing bits of feedback the team received at the time for the Circle of the Primeval was that while they liked the companion, they wanted to get big and wreak havoc! Now they can.

I would not call it "run" for the Titan circle, when it needed a 2nd unearthed arcana because the first one showed it was underpowered.

I can see how the people from that flavour wanted to be big themselves instead of having a big pet.

I think other flavours (like empowering the wild companion into a pet (and letting it grow)) would fit better for a druid pet class from flavour.

The Rune Scribe, and the idea of "prestige classes" or classes unlockable at higher levels as a general practice.

One of the benefits of 3e-5e multiclassing is the ability to treat "class" as more like an unlockable feat/feature chain; what I'd like to see given a second chance is more malleability in what "class" can be used for.

This was taken out of earlier editions for the very good reason that it’s only as good as the number of times your “specific enemy type” appears in the game.
That's true for a number of character choices, like fire or poison specced casters in Avernus, wizards on Athas, barbarians in a politics-and-subtlety campaign, etc. Most of the time you know what the main thrust of a campaign is.

My experience in my games with multiple rangers has been that it works well and really makes them feel like the expert at killing their favored enemies.

None of which is currently in WotC core materials (and frankly, Conan does politics just fine).

Really, no. This is very much a playstyle thing. “Favoured Enemy” is a very much “you must play this way or else” ability.
