I had pretty much stopped reading comics in the early 90's. Over the past few months when I found out the local library has a descent Graphic Novel collection and after going to a pretty good symposium on comics at my college I started reading them again. I found Ultimate Spiderman and read through them all and really enjoyed them.
Over the past few months I have quickly read through basically all the Ultimate universe Graphic Novels up to Ultimatum Requiem. I enjoyed them for the most part but not paying attention to comics I'm not sure what others though so that's the purpose of this.
I was at times a little shocked by the violence in the Ultimates. The slaughter of Hawkeye's family was unexpected. Wasp being a punching bag for Ant man was also darker then I wanted. On the flip side the Spiderman comics were teen relationship and high school politics. It was light hearted and at times superficial but fun.
X-men was mostly good but the anti drug bit with the drug developed from Wolverine was too much. At least they ended it there. The Apocalypse story line was so well foreshadowed that the anti climatic ending was a huge let down.
Fantastic Four had the most story lines that I just didn't care about. The Inhumans were not interesting, Namor was just a super powered freak with no depth (pun included), and then the way they did Thanos and Silver Surfer was just not that interesting.
