I LOOOOVE the 2016 DOOM soundtrack.

It is fantastic.

I'll listen to most metal, but I lean these days towards power metal.

I think I’ve told YOU the story of my first metal concert, and I may have mentioned it in the Metal School thread.

So here’s the condensed version:

Opener: Savatage.
The bass player’s signal kept dropping out, and they couldn’t fix it. After their set, he threw his instrument tomahawk style at the roadies on stage right.

2nd act: Megadeth.
They launch into “Devil’s Island” after announcing the concert is being recorded for MTV. They blew a 50k watt fuse mid chorus, plunging the entire venue into darkness for 10 minutes. Initially, the crowd thought it was part of the show.

Headliner: Dio
Touring with his “Million Dollar Stage Show” featuring laser shooting and fire breathing robots. Near the end of the set, the dragon (fire) is fighting the spider (lasers), and they set the stage left speaker cabinet stack on fire. Again, the crowd thought it was part of the show until the roadies swarmed out with extinguishers.

All in all, a very “Spïnal Täp” evening, even though no drummers were harmed.

i've always hovered down at the Funk and Ska fusion edge, but have found some Metalheads dont consider it real Metal.

I saw Don Felder last year, opening for Kevin Cronin Band and Styx, and he played Heavy Metal (Takin' a Ride), which was an excellent moment.

Historically Doom is my favorite subgenre. Black Sabbath is one of my foundational bands.

Windhand, Mammoth Storm, Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats; a little Black like Myrkur or Oranssi Pazuzu, some stoner and sludge like Electric Wizard or Kyuss. Recently I went to see Amon Amarth tour with Dethklok, which was an outstanding show, though I was very sad to miss Castle Rat's opening mini-set. Folk and pagan metal like Korpiklaani can be a ton of fun, especially live.

I can't remember now if I ever saw Finntroll live. I know I saw and enjoyed Korpiklaani in Worcester on one of the Paganfest tours many years ago. My ex wife was a big European metalhead (though her faves were Black, Gothic, and Symphonic metal) who did a lot of concert photography and reporting, so I attended a TON of shows with her between ~2004-2014.
