Up The Irons! Heavy metal appreciation thread.

Blame MegaDave. He said “watts”!
I blame MegaDave every time he opens his mouth. I read an article with him recently in the last month or two where he still blabbering on and pissed off about being kicked out of Metallica; a band he was only in for a little over a year 43 years ago. It came off as sad. As much as I liked most of everything up to Countdown to Extinction and I've seen them in concert 3 times. I can't stomach his attitude anymore and they haven't put out a good CD in a very long time.

My personal favorite industrial metal band is Godflesh.

But I also have a soft spot for some of the odder bands, like the highly improbable Praxis*.

* a rotating collective anchored by Bill Laswell, Buckethead, and Brain, with this album (Sacrifist) featuring additional musicianship from Bootsy Collins, John Zorn, Bernie Worrell, Mick Harris, Yamatsuka Eye, and members of Blind Idiot God.

When I studied for the Tx Bar exam in 1994, I used a heavy metal mixtape for helping me keep my energy & focus up. I’d used it before in the gym and when doing strenuous yardwork, so I knew it was up to the task.

Besides that song by Praxis, two other songs were on continuous mental replay as I spent the next 2 1/2 days answering questions in a pretty unforgiving environment.*

Sepultura “Roots Bloody Roots”

Godflesh “Pure”

* Dallas Market Hall for that particular session, with the AC on high…and the building undergoing renovations involving drills, jackhammers, and other assorted clanging. Which, of course, echoed beautifully in the brick building with cavernous spaces.
