Vampire: The Masquerade is getting a D&D 5.5E crossover product, coming to D&D Beyond this year

White Wolf is the latest publisher to join D&D Beyond's third-party marketplace. Today, D&D Beyond announced its next slate of partner content, coming out later this year. One of the new products is Vampire: The Masquerade - Bound by Blood (5.5e), a new product published by Ghostfire Gaming, presumably under license. Bound by Blood will contain a new Kindred class for 5.5E (a reference to a commonly-used euphemism for vampires in the World of Darkness campaign setting), as well as a new Dark Ages adventure.

Vampire: The Masquerade isn't the first rival game to Dungeons & Dragons to post 5.5E content on D&D Beyond. Chaosium previously released a Call of Cthulhu product on D&D Beyond earlier this year, and Pathfinder released a 5E version of their popular dungeon-crawler adventure Abomination Vaults, which is set in the Pathfinder setting of Golarion. D&D Beyond serves as the largest marketplace for D&D products on the internet, and is possibly the biggest TTRPG marketplace as well, so it's not a surprise that other publishers are partnering with Wizards to get their content on the marketplace.

What's curious is the nature of the relationship between Ghostfire Gaming and White Wolf, which owns the World of Darkness setting. White Wolf has been beefing up its TTRPG studio to bolster production of various World of Darkness games in recent years, notably hiring away Jess Lanzillo from D&D. They have a publishing relationship with Renegade Games, who currently publishes various Vampire: The Masquerade products along with Werewolf: The Apocalypse and Hunter: The Reckoning. What will be interesting is whether Ghostfire Gaming plans to continue publishing Vampire: The Masquerade content for D&D, or if this is a one-off publication.

White Wolf says their Gen Con announcement is not this project.

Bound by Blood is not the primary project we’re announcing at Gen Con. They’re two different projects. Bound by Blood is a 5E product, made by the awesome Ghostfire team, for people who want to visit our world using rules their tables are familiar with already. The Gen Con Vampire announcement is something we’re building in-house at White Wolf, with our team, our system, and our long-term vision.

Right now, that in-house project is where the devs’ hours are going, specifically into preparing for the playtesting at Gen Con. This playtesting is the beginning of us working on this project together, players/storytellers/devs alike, and Gen Con is where we will begin to color in more of the mysterious unannounced project picture: a full panel covering it and our prospective roadmap, hands-on playtesting folks can sit down for (featuring members of the White Wolf team and community as Storytellers), and a live Actual Play(test) run by a face you'll definitely recognize.

This makes me to remember a fancomic: "Power Rangers: A Nightmare on Elm Street" and you can imagine the plot. That would be true surrealist horror.

Of course if we are talking in a horror fantasy where there are feys too then certain surprises are possible. I like fairies as antagonists here when they act like hateful, spoiled brats, believing that we must comply with their illogical rules, without understanding the fundamentals of true leadership or the complexity of geopolitics. They miss the times when they gave the orders, but in reality they didn't deserve sincere loyalty. Here there is room for the dark comedy with some piece of satire.

* We had forgotten the ghouls, ordinary humans with some level of disciplina thanks vampire vitae. They can be potentially dangerous antagonists.

* What if vampires could use alien technology to create cyborgs like T-800? I mean they could artificial blood. Curiosly the blood by the cyborgs has got a better taste if these have got combat experience, or thanks special cybergrafts they can gather blood from other humans.

* What was wrong with the videogame "Redfall"? It could be a source of inspiration for a dark domain.

So I had no idea that this has even been made. It’s a definite buy for me hardcover, Beyond and any other format. Bloodborne is one of the coolest settings I’ve seen so anything that taps into that wins by my account. The art alone is fabulous.

I guess that shows the power of the Beyond. It gets products in front of people what would otherwise miss it.

Also more than a little miffed, given how much I read En World that I didn’t know about this. Perhaps more focus could be spent reviewing new products that are out there or at least talking about them. Particularly the larger products.

It's been a while since looking into it, but if it's based on the Dark Ages, I don't think Tremere existed yet. At least one of the big clans didn't exist during that time, and I think it was them.
