Warlock/fighter opinions and instructions...

I have a character concept in my mind, a half-elf fighter with a little bit of warlock thrown in to finish the plot. Which powers would be best? Which would help on the field of battle. Primarily this char. is a tempest style fighter. Is this possible?

Any multi-target attacks will allow you to target multiple enemies in a round. If you don't mind trying a hybrid build, a fighter with Hellish Rebuke or Dire Radiance can be quite nasty, as the target either takes extra damage for moving towards/damaging the fighter, or the fighter gets to use his marking ability. I've tried a similar build, and if you want to save on weapon/implement swapping, you can go with the Tempest Fighter and wield a Pact Dagger (which I think can be any light blade) or take Arcane Implement Proficiency.

If you are doing multiclassing rather than a hybrid build, I'd pick up Hellish Rebuke or Dire Radiance as your dilettante and get Versatile Master at paragon, to use that power at-will. If you have a DDI subscription, there was a great article recently that boosted Half-Elves considerably (there are a few threads about it).

Generally, you'll want multi-target attacks to curse ranged foes. If you're going for a more fey-oriented character, you can instead opt for teleporting powers to move around the field as you will (and Eyebite is pretty good to mark with, since they attack you with a -5, or attack anyone else with a -2 and whatever else your mark might grant).

1. Use multiclass if you are a half elf, since you want your warlock powers to mark at range.

2. Make a fighter build that profits from high constitution

3a. If you take hellish rebuke you ant to be hit a bit and you want temporary hp.

This means you will be a battlerager with 16 strength, 18 const, 12 dex or wis and 14 charisma most probably, taking brash stike as your at will and a big pact hammer.

3b. If you take dire radiance you don´t want to be hit, but still want high constitution

Still a 16 strength, 18 const, 12 dex or wis and 14 charisma build (maybe you can do with 16 const here and make wisdom or dexterity better) Here you should still take the big pact hammer. Your hit bonus is well enough. You can use a sword and chose powers that have no dexterity riders and still use utilities that key off const.

You have nice social skills/intimidate and very high hp. You hit quite well with your at wills at least and you have a good ranged option. When your constitution is 18 you should most probably opt for either paragon multiclass or a con based warlock paragon path and use your power swap feats to get multi target (for your mark it is important that those are actual attacks on all targets) powers.

If you are happy with 16 con, you can easily do with a fighter paragon path and mostly fighter powers.

With a hybrid build this doesn´t work. Your warlock powers don´t mark. Neither do your ranged attacks. So you have to use Lasting threat or something to make this combo going.
It is working once per day only.
With a multiclass build it is 1 round per encounter until level 10, but from level 11 on with versatile master, you can do it as often as it pleases you.

edit: pact hammers only work with dwarves...

My apologies, I didn't realize that didn't work. However, multiclassing and grabbing a power swap encounter or daily for a blast or burst will still get you some big close attacks to use (I can think of Arms of Hadar off the top of my head).

Yeah i was inspired to make a (dwarven) fighter warlock immediately. It is not more powerful than a straight fighter per se, but a nice concept and has some nice tricks in his hand.

Thinking about the long-term build of this class, do we want to recommend Paragon multi-classing?

I've actually never seen a class built down the Paragon multi-class line, so maybe I need to play with that in CB just to see what it feels like. Anybody who has played one care to comment?

If its a good path to pursue, do we recommend starting Fighter with just a few Warlock flavors at Heroic, then really going into the Warlock at Paragon?

only in theorie, sorry. ;)

The obvious advantage is constitution higher than strength and you can cherry pick powers, which is underestimated by charOp a lot.
