Warlord Daily question

Got a guy using a Warlord in a practice campaign at home. He popped this daily in our last encounter, "Path of the Storm".

He's got a charisma of 8, and I took the skills description to mean that he could move up to 8, and up to 8 foes he could attack along the way.

There was only 1 foe, and he shifted 1 square around him, then attacked him 8 times in a row.

That seems awfully overpowered.

Anyone know how this power is supposed to work? Thanks!

It does allow you to shift and attack repeatedly, even against the same target. It's a very powerful power. However, it only allows you to attack once/point of Cha modifier. So a character with Cha 8 couldn't attack at all using this power, since his modifier would be -1. To attack 8 times, you'd need Cha 26-27. It's also worth noting that the power is a 20th level paragon path daily, so there's a problem with your description of events; no paragon character can have Cha 8 by the normal rules for ability scores. Cha 26 is doable at 21st level, though, if you started with an 18 post-racial modifiers, always boost Cha, and take an epic destiny that adds +2 to Cha at 21st level.

Path of the storm allows you to shift a number of squares equal to your Charisma modifier (not score) and make the same number of melee basic attacks during the movement against any enemies within weapon range. You can make all the attacks against a single target.

This power is essentially useless for the warlord in question since his Charisma modifier is negative. However, a warlord with 22 Charisma could shift 6 squares and make 6 melee basic attacks against a single target.

Apologies for the imprecision in my description...

When I said charisma 8, I meant charisma 8 modifer - I just assumed everyone would know that since it is a level 20 spell. My bad! :)

Keeping that in mind though...he's right then? He can shift one time, and hit a single target 8 consecutive times in a row.

Wow.....

Yes. Keep in mind, though, that he can only do this once per day, barring abilities that allow him to recharge high-level daily powers, and all eight attacks are melee basic attacks.

WoTC has been errata-ing several multi-attack encounter powers.
Those encounter powers have been limited to 3-attacks max.

I don't know what WoTC thinks of multi-attack daily powers, though.

8 melee basic atks by a warlord? Doesn't sound broken to me. Heck, I'd give him a few more since he'll be missing at least half of those. :)

Not if he attacks after another party member has used some power to give him a hefty attack bonus or inflict a hefty AC penalty on the target. Examples: a paladin with hand of the gods or a ranger with armor splinter. ;)

The warlord can actually do it himself. In order to use path of the storm, you need to be a battlelord of Kord. Battlelords can give themselves a +2 to hit and a +Cha to damage using inspiring word.

I've also never had a problem hitting with my warlord.
