WFRP 5e is out for pre-order with immediate PDF

Have you seen The Old World: Grim and Perilous?

It's a fan made conversion to Genesys. Great production value with all original art. I don't know how sound it is mechanically nor how it compares to 3rd edition but the guys are dedicated .
I have not seen it, so thank you for the link. But just to be sure what I care for is less the aestethic (I dont like Warhammer in that sense), but the gamedesign which in 3e was interesting with the cards etc.

Genesis itself (without good cards abilities etc.) is interesting but not the core of what I liked in 3E. Still definitly worth to checking out!

My friend is convinced that the 8 free advances and talent gained when you start your career don't count towards your career advance track.

There is a comment on p36 that says:
If you acquired a Trapping in this way, tick a box (or two!) on the Career Advancement Tracker. This is the only time you may do so during Character Creation.

Can anyone clarify this? I'm under the impression that as in 4th ed those advances count towards getting to Tier 2 in a career.

I can understand why. During character creation you get quite a lot of advances for skills etc, and to advance to career level 2 it only takes 5 advances. Counting everything during character creation might shoot people to level 2 or 3 before you blink.

So the rules under advancing through your career refer to improving your abilities not what you start play with. And the quoted section specifically references that level two trappings is the only way of gaining ticks during character creation.

It’s been fed back in the errata before printing to make it clearer. I agree with @Crusadius it would be mad to complete career 1 during character creation. Realistically will take most folks 400-700 XP to reach level 2 which still feels relatively fast.
