What’s your favourite movie sword?

This is the only thing that comes to mind for me when someone says "movie sword".

Anything else mentioned in this thread is, to me, basically just "a sword", rather than a movie sword (or, in the case of things like light sabres, just not something I think of as a sword at all).

I admit that it came to my mind too - but it gets dismissed as most ridiculous movie sword not as favourite

That's fair. It may be leaning slightly towards the ridiculous side of the scale. It's indelibly imprinted on my psyche, though.

The Peter Jackson Lord of the Ring movies generally had really excellent production design for weapons. Most of the swords are fantastical yet plausible, rather than the cheesy stuff you see in a lot of fantasy movie weapons or other fantasy design. As iconic as Anduril is I've heard Glamdring is better to handle as an actual sword, with a somewhat more restrained pommel and a better size for most people (based on unofficial replicas).

Unfortunately the official replicas are ponderous wall-hangers. I played with my sister's Anduril replica once and while my knowledge of swordplay is based on foil fencing which clearly wasn't going to fully translate even with a replica that was a plausible weight, if I were a champion body-builder that sword would still be stupidly heavy.

According to the internet, replicas of Anduril weigh 4.5-5.5lbs, which is definitely on the heavy side for a HEMA longsword (which is generally around 2.5-3.5lbs). This is even noting that longswords are meant for two-handed use*. Presumably the blade is a bit too thick and the pommel too heavy. The more important question is where Anduril is balanced - even a heavy sword is manageable if the centre of gravity is where it’s supposed to be, roughly where the guard is.

*In my experience HEMA rapiers are only a little lighter at 2-3lbs, which makes them quite a pain to practise with for more than 30 minutes or so, so you tend to swap hands every so often. As a result, most HEMA swordsmen I’ve known are perfectly happy fighting left-handed.

I have one, and it is ENORMOUS. Ridiculously huge. Here is it (second from right). That sword on the far right? That's pretty big. So you can see how big Anduril is!

For me it's Westley's sword, but that's a close second. Third-up would be Tristan's sword from "Stardust." Basically a Kopis and I just have to like the sword of a guy who fell in love with a star.
