What are you reading in 2026?

Right now, the four James Silke Horned Helmet novels. Which are co-credited to Frank Frazetta, but he didn't really write them. He did do the covers, and consulted a bit on character and setting, I'm led to understand, though.

Finished Song of the Saurials, last of the Finders Stone trilogy, and found it disappointing to be honest.

On the positive side, more Realms again, get to know more about the Saurials, and a good finish to the arcs through the trilogy.

But the journey there was painful, with a lot of initial tension and drama driven by characters refusing to communicate, and it felt like some of the character growth from Azure Bonds was undone, with various characters just acting Chaotic Stupid as such.

Plus the explanation given for Alias being Chaotic Stupid make some other happening is questionable, particularly around Cat and Giogis relationship and Cat being pregnant.

All up not sure I could recommend the book, think can read the first two and leave it there :)
Yeah, I remember that from reading them back in the 90s - it was a bit of a let down. Also, PC whose name begins with A, it is NOT COOL to marry a magical clone of your best friend you have a crush on without at least mentioning it to her first, especially since you know she has issues about not being unique.

I think there’s a much later follow-up novel set in Westgate - has anyone read that?

Is there anyone who is a fan of Arcadia Publishing's hyper local history books? It seems so niche, and yet I see them all over the place, and yes, very local. I love the concept, although I'm not much of a history buff. I like that they are archiving, in paper, actual history. I am concerned that I don't really know anything about the publisher, hope they aren't closet authoritarianists. Also, I am very curious about the business model - can it be profitable to print 200 copies of one of these books?

Here's one local to me.

This past week I put in for an inter-library loan for The Book of Blood and Roses (The Callisto Chronicles book 1) by Annie Summerlee, I want to read it before I commit to buying my own copy, I did the sample on kindle and now i want to see if it stays the same before buying it.

I have other books on my want list including Detour: A Novel (Detour Series) by Jeff Rake (Author), Rob Hart (Author), and When I Was Death by Alexis Henderson (Hardcover).

I do a podcast where we read genre fiction and talk about it in relation to GMing, and our next book is Wizard of Earthsea. I took the opportunity to order the big beautiful illustrated 50th anniversary edition. When we moved a while back, I eliminated 90% of my library of games, books, comics, etc. Now, when I buy such things, I only go big. If it isn't worth getting a beautiful copy of, it isn't worth owning.

A Wizard of Earthsea is truly an amazing book. One I wish I had gotten far earlier than I did.

I've gotten a few deluxe editions of books, and they really are special to read. But I will always love those classic mass market trade paperbacks.

I need to find a gorgeous hardcover of The Last Unicorn -- easily my favorite fantasy novel of all time outside the Lord of the Rings.

It’s a masterpiece.
