What are you watching in (late 2025 and) 2026?

The Boroughs (Netflix, 8 episodes) produced by the Duffer Brothers (Stranger Things). This is clearly a nod to Twilight Zone. Some have also called it Stranger Things at a retirement community in the middle of the desert. It was good fun but we guessed the 'mystery' too fast. All the performances are great. Loved Geena Davis, as always. Nods to Telma & Louise with twits. Nods to the Goonies. The last episode was anti-climactic for us. Something unexplained happens near the end. Could be the hint of a second season. Overall we give it a 7.5. We would watch a second season.
I liked this one too overall but i think it was due to the strength of a really packed cast of brilliant character actors that made it fun. Alfred Molina is just always a gem. Denis O’Hare chews scenery like no other. Geena Davis is channeling Thelma and Louise all thru the show.

Poor mayor.
Just wait...

As for me, I'm always anticipating the next ep of Widow's Bay, and we're enjoying How To Get To Heaven From Belfast. They're similar shows in a way: WB is horror/comedy, and Belfast is murder mystery/comedy. Both have strong traditional dramatic elements, but also take full advantage of the comedy aspects of the tropes they're drawing from.

We’ve got Disney+ back for a few months so I’m taking the opportunity to watch The Acolyte. It’s pretty good so far, feels very Star Wars but completely separate from the Imperial era or the interminable Skywalker saga. Makes me want to run a Star Wars campaign.

Widow’s cove: episode 3-4. The hag and the best party of your life. A lot of good laughs and cringe with the hag, the party was perfectly cruel. Poor Patricia.
