What are you watching in (late 2025 and) 2026?

We just watched all three seasons of School Spirits even though it basically went nowhere and the actors playing teenagers all look like they're in their mid-30s (at this rate, they'll be in their 40s before the story gets past the current school year). Basically, we developed Lost syndrome: if we keep watching long enough, surely something has to be resolved...

I think I got sucked in because I teach high school, which has a lot in common with being the ghost of a student who never graduated.

We've also been watching The Traitors in every nationality where they speak English. The British version is the best, the US version is the worst (it's all reality stars with way too many Housewives. I define "too many" as any number greater than zero.).

How do you rate the Kiwi version? IIRC it did have too many minor celebrities who knew each other and were too friendly.

It was okay. Kiwi celebrities are much more tolerable than American ones. The British Celebrity version is fairly delightful.

If I had to rate them, I'd go:

1. UK
2. Canada (disclaimer: there are some Housewives but from the Canadian version of the franchise, which is less awful)
3. New Zealand
4. Australia
5. US (though it has the second best host)

Haven't watched the Irish version yet, but it just became available on Crave. And the Australian version is being rebooted with a new host, which is almost certain to be an upgrade.

I just binged Widow’s Bay in two nights - what an awesome show! Matthew Rhys is always worth watching.

I ended up liking One Piece a lot more than I thought I would. I did try the anime and it wasnt doing it for me.

Same. I was really shocked how much we liked it.

We got bored with One Piece after three episodes. The novelty wore off.

Widow's Cove was excellent. The ending was properly somber. I usually don't like horror but this show does it right for me. Apple renewed for a second season.

We started watching Legends (Netflix), about UK border guards who go undercover without proper training, for the war on drugs during the Tatcher years.

I've been in rewatch mode this past few weeks. Rewatched Andor, still as brilliant as ever. The passing of Anthony Steward Head had me rewatching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and with the second season about to air, I've also gone back to X-Men '97.

Having finished The Acolyte, I’ve now watched the first two episodes of Darth Maul: Shadow Lord. It’s good, but I don’t really like having Maul as a protagonist - he’s a charming monster but he’s still a monster.

It’s quite interesting to see how the quality of animation has improved in the Filoniverse from The Clone Wars to Rebels to this. Honestly, it might have been better to do Ahsoka in animation rather than live-action.

Funny hearing Wagner Moura’s voice - he’s instantly recognisable as Death from Puss in Boots. Otherwise I only know him from The Secret Agent, where he’s speaking Portuguese the entire time.

Yeah, for all we see of him leading a cohesive criminal group and grooming a potential apprentice, it's hard not to see the person we know he'll be in Rebels, willing to break any promise and betray any trust in pursuit of his goals.
