What happened to the US release of Sword World?

DarkCrisis

Bad to the bone
Like a year plus ago the company porting it over was like “soon on Kickstarter!”

Then it switched to “delays but eventually”.

Anyone know anything? I hate get excited for something and then it never materialize.. see also Adventure Time RPG

Oh yeah. I just assumed I would hear more eventually but it has been a while. I would really like to see an official release of Sword World in English.

It looks like it moved to backerkit at some point, and then froze. I have an update email from November last year that suggests launch is planned for August this year, but no update at all since then, making it seem unlikely.

I am interested in this too, but lost track of the campaign(s), to be honest. The link is appreciated, at least they are being communicative about the issues.

The KS was set for last month but got pushed back until “summer”. I believe a big part of the problems right now is that the Japanese IP holder is uncomfortable with many of the standard crowd funding “things” and it seems like SNE wants a lot of oversight and approval. Mugen is a two person team local to Kansas City and doing good work but its a big IP from a company that hasn’t done a US localization before.

From my understanding, the delays of the crowdfunding launching were specifically related to their cover artist falling through. Mugen is committed to using 100% Japanese artists, and so that is a pretty slow moving process of communicating back and forth.

They only have the rights to the text of the games, as that is owned by Group SNE but another company owns the art and the layout of the books. So they have to redo all of that.

I have no doubt that the project will come out, but I don't think it will be released in 2026 in any conceivable timeline.

They just had a trip to Japan to meet with Group SNE again, and have promised more updates "soon".

Lots of red flags in this thread. I'm tracking the crowdfund, but will probably wait until the actual release of product before buying, if I do at all.

If the publisher had some other projects under their belt of any scope whatsoever, then I'd be less cynical about it. All it would take is for a single personal emergency to torpedo this whole enterprise.
