What is/are your most recent TTRPG purchase(s)?

Just a couple of hours ago I bought a pdf of the old Bluffside: City on the Edge book. Anyone remember how much that got shilled by the publisher here in these forums? I still haven't decided if that was obnoxious or endearing. But some nearly 25 years later, I finally bought it, so that's something.

A while ago, I flipped through the online contents comments (I forget which website) of a lot of Dragon magazines and noted which ones seemed interesting that I didn’t already have.

Last night, I ordered 11 Dungeon things from Noble Knight (including one Dragon Annual and 3 “Best of”, plus 7 actual issues).

The Dragon Magazine Archive CD is really good. It has the first 250 issues compiled but wow it has gotten expensive. Think I paid $30 in 2000 or so, give or take.

What is the most recent TTRPG product you have purchased? No limits on what: book, PDF, dice, software, minis, whatever.

What make you pick it up? Are you happy with the purchase so far?
Dice, dice, and even more dice. Did I mention dice ? Yes, I'm a dice goblin.

I picked all of them up because I thought they looked pretty. Also, because they were all metal, which I really like both because of looks and because of their weight (in comparison to plastic/resin ones).

I was happier with some sets than with others. Some looked great, but were hard to read in practice (because of lack of contrast for example, or small fonts, or other reasons which may not be all that obvious when looking at zoomed-in high-lighted photos at the seller website). In the end, I only play regularly with the sets that both look good, and are easy to read at the table.

And excuse me, but I'm now off to buy some more dice.

I bought it when it came out, and I remember spending a snow day reading it in 1996 (for adults too, Governor of NY declared a state of emergency and no driving allowed), but I don’t currently have a CD/DVD drive attached to my PC.

To me, it’s nicer to read on paper.

And issues 251-359 are officially paper only, so far as I know.

A lot of old Dragon magazines are cheap ($2-4), whereas Dungeon is often much more.

Yeah I have trouble reading anything on a screen for more than a few minutes at a time.

As far as I know you are correct.

I wish that they had given Dungeon that same treatment and released it on CD, but in a way, I can see why they didn't. In theory Dungeon was a good idea, but using the adventures in an ongoing campaign sometimes took some doing to fit them in to and have them make sense.

My understanding is the reason they didn’t do Dragon 251-359 on CD, and Dungeon at all, was related to lawsuits. I there was a dispute about whether they could republish one of the cartoons.

WotC also annoyingly wouldn’t let Paizo put out adventure paths beyond Shackled City in collected book format.

Dungeon did have two “best of books”.

I’ve collected every issue of Dungeon, and I’m in process of reading them and writing notes/reviews. I find it interesting, obviously, and with the searchable ability to find appropriate stuff it’s been useful in my two 3.5e campaigns.

I never heard about any lawsuits. I don't think the Dragon Magazine Archive sold all that well, but I can't say for sure. I never met anyone else who owned one, and I seem to remember it was always on the shelf at Media Play. Poor sales may have been the reason a Dungeon Archive never got made. I don't remember what the MSRP was for the Dragon Archive; it wasn't ridiculously expensive but wasn't cheap either from my recollection. I looked online but couldn't find what it originally retailed for.
