D&D 5E What is your favorite dnd character to play ?

Rule Dice

Villager
Without naming it, my favorite D&D character to play is one with a big contradiction—like a noble warrior with a secret fear of failure or a cheerful bard hiding a tragic past. It’s those unexpected moments where their layers show that really make them come alive.

How about you? Do you love characters who defy expectations or ones who lean hard into classic archetypes? And how do they tend to interact with the party?

My favorite character is variety. They aren't like my last five characters, but some angle of psychology I haven't explored or expressed yet in game. Sure I'm usually some kind of support character that focuses more on helping the party over their own agendas, but the who, what, why, and how are very different than the last handful guys.

Mostly two types: the self sufficient all round jack of all trades ( even though I dislike bards, weird I know) and the self sacrificing warrior. The one who holds the line even if it means death so his companions can escape

Class wise I love the mechanics of Bards in their support/buff/debuff rolls I just dislike the flavour of being an entertainer. Having said that there are a thousand ways to reflavour/refluff that, and most DM's I know don't care about the musical instrument focus.

Roleplaying Wise I like to play a character who can be the mild butt of the joke for the rest of the party. It seems to encourage more interparty roleplay.

Wait...You like Bards but not the theme but you also like characters who are the butt of the joke.

Jester is right there.

I like to play any class that is useful. I hate being underpowered relative to the other players.

Roleplay wise, I like introverted characters, so that I'm not expected to chat with every NPC the party comes across. Being the "face" of the party is not really fun for me.

I like the anti-hero fighter/thief with a disregard for authority, a deadly blade, and lots of stealth.

Personality wise in the end they all kind of take on my sarcasm and just become fantasy me with higher dex scores and more sword training.
